You know, from a technical standpoint I don't think this was the strongest writing ever, and I could nitpick the smoking thing, but I don't even care because this episode just got me, in a way that none of the others have so far this season. I know I've been complaining about how the episodes are so closely focused on one character, but if every episode was a Katie ep I would be totally okay with that. ;)

So, my new favourite thing in the world: KATIE FITCH HOLDING PEOPLE'S HANDS. Effy, of course, James in the car, and EMILY, OMG. You know, throughout that whole barbecue scene I was pretty pissed off with Emily (not that I don't see why she's hurting, but I was so busy wanting to give Naomi a hug) but then Katie came and lay down with her and held her hand - which is one of my favourite clichés from fic, ngl - and I just died. TWINS ♥

I was really not on board with Katie/Thomas as a ship but as friends, OH MY GOD SO ADORABLE. I totally approve! See, this is how I like Thomas: in small doses, being an adorable friend.

As I was saying before, I still want to give Naomi a massive hug. :((( (Do we know for sure if she's getting the last episode or not? Because if she doesn't get her own episode, if the Naomi/Emily mess just gets a tiny bit of rushed resolution in an 'Everyone' episode, I will not be impressed.)

I totally loved the bit at the barbecue where Naomi, Effy and Katie were all sitting on deckchairs, and I wish we'd had more of it. Preferably including, like, actual conversation. I love them SO FREAKING MUCH. ♥

Oh my God, there's so much to say I haven't even touched on the premature menopause thing. :( See, this sort of storyline is so much better than fucking STALKERS or whatever, because it's not something that's been done a lot but it's not completely outlandish. And, just, fuck. Honestly, I was over the moon when the doctor said she wasn't pregnant (I'd read spoilers ages ago that suggested she was, but thank God they were fake!) but this is just horrible and makes me want to hug her even more, if that's even possible.

Saving the best for last: CAN WE PLEASE TALK ABOUT HOW KATIE AND EFFY ARE TOTALLY IN LOVE, AND JUST HAVEN'T REALISED IT YET? OMGOMGOMG, my little shipper heart just couldn't take the harbour scene. The thing with Effy teaching her how to inhale is bullshit because we've at least seen Katie smoke spliff before, but I DON'T EVEN CARE, DID YOU SEE THE WAY SHE TOUCHED KATIE'S CHEST? Okay, I made it sound ~dirty when really it was adorable, but whatever. The point is that Effy is totally miserable with Freddie and Katie and Effy are MFEO. The end.

Can't believe we have to suffer through Freddie next week, but was that Katie and Effy together at that... carnival thing, whatever it was? I NEED SCREENCAPS.

I can't even concentrate on Katie/Effy, because my favourite relationship in this show is between Katie and Emily. That hug while Emily sobs into Katie's shoulder just killed me ♥ And then holding hands outside the house? *flails*

Possible spoilers (but most likely not): Also, there was apparently a deleted scene in which Emily and Naomi hugged (probably Emily telling Naomi she was moving out to live with her family?) and it looked beautiful - I love Kat's hair

KATIE AND EFFY ARE SO IN LOVE. THE END.

THIS WHOLE EPISODE really got to me and I really think the premature menopause thing was a stroke of genius, genuinely. At first I though, OMG, AWW then I thought EUGH, ANOTHER CONTRIVED PLOT DEVICE and then I though that it actually ran through the whole episode so subtly and was an amazing way to show Katie's growth - how she put aside her own shit for once and tried to fix everyone else whilst showing immense self awareness at the fact that she really just can't fix everything because she goes about it the wrong way re:aggressiveness - that yeah, I was truly touched by the whole plot.

It had a brilliant balance of humour and drama; I could complain that some of the line deliveries were a bit flat but that's like THE ONLY THING I could complain about and the REST OF THE EPISODE vs that just outright wins so I don't even care.

The Fitches are absolute GOLD. I just, eugh. ♥

Finally, an episode lives up to my expectations

I got all teary at the end! Infertility is a terrible shame, esp for someone like Katie who derives a lot of self worth from that other people think.

I know Emily was a dick, but she has a lot no her shoulders. She feels betrayed by both her girlfriend and her mother. I dunno- personality wise I'm not like Emily but I've done the whole wallowing with alcohol. It's not pretty, but it's something a lot of teens do. I'm starting to feel bad for Naomi and think the two of them should go on (at least) a break until they sort this out. Lily was really, really good here- possible her best episode to date.

It's about an hour after I've seen this episode and I still feel oddly emotional.

Sorry took me so long, avoided my flist for 3 days while i was on holiday. BUT OH MY GOD. FITCHES. A FITCHES SHOW IS NEEDED. Oh god, Katie and Emily. I want an episode where they get locked in a room. And make it a 2 hour episode. With no ads.

Possibly a miniseries.

If it's any help at all: super sekrit work sources suggest that episode eight is an "everyone" episode, but the primary focus does seem to be on Naomi...
