I think... well, in some ways the plot kind of turns into a generic hero quest thing, and I could see why people might not be too impressed with that, but I thought it was so unexpected and awesome to have a girl in that reluctant hero role that I didn't mind. It's not ~high art~ but I really enjoyed all the characters, the visuals were awesome, and it involved one of my favourite story tropes, so it worked for me. :D
