Thank you so much for writing for me! This is one of my favourite fic exchanges and I hope you have as much fun writing for it as I always do. I have a tendency to write really long 'Dear Writer' letters for this sort of thing, but the idea is to give you lots of options rather than pin you down with details. (If you hate long 'Dear Writer' letters, RUN AWAY NOW. This is a monster.) My golden rule with fic exchanges is that the story I'm most interested in reading is the one that you're most interested in writing. Please don't tie yourself in knots trying to write a story you're not passionate about just because you think it's what I'll like - I'm really easy-going and I'm sure I'll love whatever you come up with.
I like fics with all kind of ratings, so whether you hate writing porn or it's your specialty, write whatever you're comfortable with. I'll list a few of my general dislikes below but none of them are absolute squicks; I've read and enjoyed fics that deal with all the elements I usually dislike. (Not even kidding, I've read a necrophilia story that absolutely blew me away because it was so creepy and awesomely done.) Uh, not that I'm trying to issue you a challenge here. ;)
Ramble ramble and I've not even started talking about my specific fandoms! SORRY.
Legend of the Seeker (Cara/Kahlan, Cara/Dahlia):
Kahlan is my absolute favourite, except for the times when Cara is. Basically, I love them both to pieces and think they're adorable and totally in love. I love it when Cara has ~feelings that she can't admit to, and I love that Kahlan doesn't need Cara to admit them because she knows. I love that this show is totally lulzy, with its Powerful Magic and ridiculous slow motion fight scenes, but it also has a lot of heart, and fic capturing that kind of tone would be great. Or you could write an AU and that would be fun too! Pretty much I love these characters and would be happy to read whatever you want to write about them. I really don't want any Richard bashing but I don't mind if you want to get him out of the way. (Preferably not by killing him, because I don't like it when Kahlan's sad.) OH, my other favourite thing (I have a lot of favourite things about this show) is when Kahlan goes all Con Dar. That's always good times.
I also really loved the canon Cara/Dahlia and would love to see their relationship explored further. You can go pretty dark with this pairing for obvious reasons - not that you have to! - and the end of the series offered a bunch of different timelines to work with, any of which would be cool to explore. Or you could write about them first falling in love; that would be awesome too.
Doctor Who (Amy/River):
My newest shiny fandom! My love for this show is through the roof, because everything works so perfectly: the characters, the themes, the plot, the humour. I adore the series five characters and am wishing away the year because I can't wait for the Christmas special, so pretty anything to do with these characters will fill me with glee. I love that Amy is passionate and confident and sometimes foolhardy, and I love that River is so ambiguous and badass - so you could explore that side of them, having them running off on adventures together, or you could poke at their insecurities and that would be brilliant too. If you wanted to do interesting timey wimey things and explore their different chronologies, that would be awesome! Bonus Eleven would be very much appreciated as I adore him (though if you don't want to include him, that's fine too). Please please please no Rory bashing; I love him to bits and believe that Amy does too. In my head Amy is polyamorous, so I don't think you need to split them up or kill Rory off to make Amy/River work.
'Telephone' video (Gaga/Honey B):
If you take a cursory look at my LJ you'll probably find a reference to how much I love Lady Gaga, because, um, I really really do. Like, a huge amount. 'Telephone' is my favourite video of hers by a long shot because its sensibility is everything I love about anything: it is a) completely ridiculous, and b) amazingly gay. I love the stylised Tarantino vibe and think that kind of style fic would be awesome, but you can take it wherever you like. It's kind of hard for me to wax lyrical on the ~characters because, you know, it's just a music video, there's not a whole lot of depth there, but I would love to see them explored more. You could make the fic fun, you could make it dark - whatever you're inspired to do, really. Any fic at all about this video would be awesome.
If you hate the request we matched on then this would obviously be the fandom that would be easiest to pick up, but I figure you probably already know whether you like Gaga or not. But on the off chance that you haven't seen the video, it's available for your viewing pleasure here.
Crossover: Doctor Who/Skins (Amy Pond/Katie Fitch):
I've already talked about why I love Doctor Who, and this is long enough without me rehashing it. But Skins! Skins was my main fandom last year, up until series four happened, but even though I didn't like series four at all my love for Katie Fucking Fitch is unwavering. She's a giant woobie who hides behind a bitchy facade, and I just want to squish her. With this request I was really thinking about inserting Katie into the Whoniverse rather than having Amy pop up in the Skins world (although it's cool if you want to write that!) - I'd love to read about her seeing the universe, having adventures and kicking ass and fulfilling her potential. I think she and Amy would be great together, with awesome banter, or maybe they could open up to each other, or - anything, really, I feel like there's so much possibility in the pairing. Also, their vast height difference intrigues me. ;) ALSO, if for any reason Effy showed up in your fic, that would be awesome.
Um! I feel like most of my general likes have been covered in the above; the only other thing I'll say is that I have a HUGE preference for UST and first time fics over established relationships. Established relationships can be done well, but UST is my absolute favourite thing.
General dislikes: stories that are unrelentingly dark, character death, non-con, extreme kink, PWP, uneven power dynamics in sexual relationships, pregnancy/babies.
This letter is now as long as your fic has to be, so TIME TO STOP. If reading this has totally overwhelmed you or stressed you out, feel free to completely disregard it! Just write whatever you're inspired to write and I'm sure I'll love it.
