I could always just Google it, I suppose.

Does anyone know the best (free) software to make screencaps from DVDs? I've been using VLC, but what I'd really like is something that'll let me skip frame-by-frame (or, um, if there's a way to do that in VLC, I'd like to know that). Anyone? Bueller? Now I have the Skins DVDs I don't want to go back to capping the crappy .avi files.

Virtual Dub! I swear by it for capping; easy and free and frame-by-frame and doesn't clog up your computer :D

OH OH I am not sure if it does DVDs, though, I have always used for AVIs. HM. Investigate!

I use Virtual Dub for .avi files but I don't think it plays DVDs?

LOLLL, CLEARLY IT'S BECAUSE I HAVE NOTHING BETTER TO DO AT THE MOMENT APART FROM WRITE MY DISSERTATION.

Anyway YES, I tried VD (LOLLL UNFORTUNATE ACRONYM) and it didn't work :( I might have to resort to using the .avis but I really wanted good quality caps for a new LJ layout.

I'd suggest PowerDVD, because it's what I use, but it's not free. and i'd never suggest anything illegal

... I'm SO stupid; I looked PowerDVD up earlier, saw that you had to pay, and DIDN'T EVEN THINK ABOUT TORRENTING IT. LOL, so thanks for the, uh, non-suggestion. ;)

PowerDVD caps it frame by frame?

(I never actually checked it out, since it's always a bitch to me lol)

It has a little arrow thingy you use to move it one frame at a time? Works okay for me. ;)

Oh, I seeeee. I may just have to stop hating PDVD now lolol

I noticed PowerDVD doesn't really do every single frame. BSPlayer was the only one that used to do it, forwards and backwards, but the last version (or my PC) no longer do it backwards.

I use something called ImageGrab. I've never used it for DVDs since I usually import everything first before I cap, but it's a freeware program I think, and it caps frame to frame. You can actually set it to a per frame/second/minute number.

Oh, thanks, I'll check it out!
