I have 126 icons and most of them I never use.

- I had an Important Plot Breakthrough for my dissertation today, which was pretty awesome. I still have a fuckload to do, but at least right now I've started to get excited about it again. It's a bit weird writing it though, because it's a novel-length idea and I'm just writing the first chapter, so I don't get to write any of the fun resolution part, I just have to... IDK, hopefully introduce some interesting characters and conflicts or whatever. I find it really weird being judged on the beginning of a story and not the whole thing.

- I'm trying to avoid fandom a bit at the moment because I only have room for one set of characters in my head at the moment, but it's SO DIFFICULT. I've read a bit of meta lately that's been complaining about the suckitude of femslash fandom and I can't relate at ALL, because Skins fandom is so shiny and awesome and makes me roll around in GLEE. Srsly, I can't believe how lucky I am to find a fandom this perfect for me.

- Judging by the dream I had last night, my subconscious apparently ships Fry/Laurie? LOLZ. (I'm so glad it was strictly G-rated.)

- Don't know if anyone cares, but I got a dreamwidth. I don't plan on doing anything with it at all unless LJ completely implodes, but it's there if you want to friend it?

- Eurovision tomorrow! My plans include getting drunk and watching it.

I saw that and it makes me grit my teeth because people need to stop referring to femslash as a "fandom." It's just not; it's, like, a subgenre or something. A category, you know? And how good the girlslash fic is depends on what fandom you're in. People who write meta should really stop to examine how specific their experiences are. I don't care about girlslash as a category--I care about specific pairings (a lot of which happen to be f/f), and I think that's true for most people.

Yeah, I agree. I mean, there's so little of it that it tends to be grouped together (which can be a good thing, like with [livejournal.com profile] femslash_today and [livejournal.com profile] thelittlebang) but I think that makes people think it's some monolithic thing when it's just not. It's like, maybe the fandoms that these people are in suck when it comes to femslash, but over here? WE'RE DOING FINE.

Well, exactly! And, honestly, it just gets under my skin whenever I read those kinds of posts, about how something isn't as good as it used to be, or wow, femslash writers aren't pulling their weight. I always want to say, well if you don't think it's so great, do something to make it better. Get involved, but don't just write pointless meta about how much it sucks--write, make vids, ~contribute, you know? Like, make fandom as a whole more fun.

Yeah, definitely. I think there can be value in meta, and I'd like to see more meta about femslash (or more general meta that actually acknowledges that femslash exists) but not if it's just pointless bitching. You're right, people are much more likely to respond to new and exciting fic than people talking about how others should write new and exciting fic.
