To read makes our speaking English good.

OMG, how did I not know that Margaret Atwood published a follow-up to Oryx and Crake? Well, okay, it was only out a couple of weeks ago so I'm not hideously behind the times, but still. I was browsing in Waterstone's, thought I'd read the blurb of the new Margaret Atwood novel and started spazzing when it mentioned God's Gardeners and CorpSeCorps and JIMMY.

So, yes, excited. I fucking LOVE Oryx and Crake.

In fandom news, I'm... kind of dragging my heels with the 80s AU; I still have about 7000 words to type up and it's so super boring that I mostly can't be bothered. I need, like, minions. Even just one would do. Although, I haven't been completely unproductive lately; I did manage to write about 800 words of Lily/Kat today, so you can probably expect that in about another ten years.

Ohh, I remember reading Oryx and Crake years ago, but sadly can't remember that much about it. Now I have a perfect reason to reread it.

TYPE UP YOUR WORDS, PLZ.

ALSO, Lily/Kat? OMG YES.

Oryx and Crake is definitely worth a reread; I read it first maybe four years ago then studied it at uni last year and I thoroughly enjoyed it both times.

I will type them up! ... eventually. And then I'll try to get into the habit of NOT WRITING LONGHAND.

LOL, I don't know if the Lily/Kat is worth getting excited over. It's only going to be short, at any rate.

OMG!

Oryx and Crake = one of my favorite fucking books of all time. OF ALL TIME.

IKR?? My major Thing for post-apocalyptic fiction is entirely because Oryx and Crake is so awesome. Only read a few pages of The Year of the Flood so far but omgggg, it's so exciting to get more from that world.

I love Margaret Atwood, LIKE FIERCE.

(PS TYPE FASTER.)

♥,
me

LOL, in order to "type faster" I'd have to be typing in the first place. I haven't done any since... when did I email and say I was doing it? Sunday? I suck. :/

[identity profile] old-wp.livejournal.com 2009-09-17 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
LOLLLL Oh, jeez. ;) I never write much long hand because I get frustrated at not being able to write faster (if I'm in a particularly good place), as I type much more quickly than I write. But I get the appeal, because there's too much that's distracting about writing on the computer (THE ENTIRE INTERNET, for one).

[identity profile] botherd.livejournal.com 2009-09-17 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
LOL, yeah. I mean, I manage to write on the computer for NaNo, but at other times I find it impossible. If I didn't write longhand, I probably wouldn't write much at all.

Thanks, dude,I just finished a book and was in search of a new one. Never read anything by Atwood, so \o/.

Oh, and the fact you just quotes XANDER mutherflipping HARRIS makes you the best person ever. I'm not kidding. I love him and his impeccable grasp of the English language so.

[identity profile] botherd.livejournal.com 2009-09-17 12:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I hope you enjoy it!

Xander is awesome. He's not even my favourite Buffy character, but I still love him.

[identity profile] holeybubushka.livejournal.com 2009-09-17 01:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I have to get through a very heinous stretch of semester, but when I get some free time I'll check out some of her work for sure.

I'm in the minority of Buffy fans, since Xander has always been my favorite. I was in awe of his bravery. I was in awe epic snoopy dancing. I was in awe the amount of twinkies he can shove into his mouth at once.

Heh, he was the one I related to, basically (plus, we have the similar taste in women, so \o/). I do find it strange that Emily is my fantasy girlfriend, yet I was never attracted to Willow. Both are shy red heads. Maybe I needed to see Willow flip Tara over, ala le Fitch, a few more times to solidify crush-age.

Can't help with the JJ dad question, btw. I'm an ignorant Australian after all.

(Probably shouldn't say anything about the five nill score line in the cricket, either).

Everything I've ever picked up by Margaret Atwood has seemed like a really good idea for a book, but hasn't really delivered in the reading. Have been meaing to read Oryx and Crake since I read an interview with her promoting the new book, though. Your recommendation is timely and duly noted.

Cheerio, Michael. xxx

I started reading The Handmaid's Tale and wasn't that fussed, so I can see where you're coming from. I think you might like Oryx and Crake, though.

[identity profile] ems.livejournal.com 2009-09-17 01:00 pm (UTC)(link)
HDU?! ;) Margaret Atwood is a BLOODY GENIUS. Although the over-reliance on wordplay in The Handmaid's Tale really impressed me at 16 but now kind of makes me cringe.

Oryx and Crake is probably her most accomplished dystopia - it's a really well fleshed out world. I am really excited about this sequel too. :)

OH GOD YES THANK YOU FOR INFORMING ME.

My favorite book of hers remains far and away The Handmaid's Tale, but Oryx and Crake would be a close second. And I love everything she writes anyway. AHHHH *buys*
