Obligatory Thursday Skins Post
Wow, that was the stupidest thing ever written.
Once again, Skins has taken a storyline that would have been interesting on its own - Effy recovering from a suicide attempt - and rendered it completely ridiculous by adding A PSYCHO WHO BRAINWASHED EFFY AND BEAT FREDDIE TO DEATH. I just. What is this? Jesus, I've disliked Freddie throughout and thought he was back on top douche form this episode, but even he deserved better than that. It's not ~edgy, Jamie Brittain, it's just bullshit.
The best part of this episode once again was Katie fucking Fitch - "She dumped you again" - but I can't even squee about that because I'm in mourning. Not for Freddie, but for the show I used to love.

And, thanks! New job is going all right, but it's a bit boring so far. I'm hoping it'll pick up soon.

that is so fucking true.

EXACTLY. I don't even. If I hadn't been incredibly disappointed already, this would've done me in. As it were, I'm laughing and crying at the same time.

I honestly don't think I've ever seen a show go from awesome to awful so abruptly. Most shows at least have a transition period with a couple of mediocre seasons first.

I feel like this season ended after episode four for me. Everything after that is inane bullshit.
I can't even get excited about Noami/Emily in bed together! How could they construct one of the best coming of age/coming out stories one year and decimate it the next? Wow, Jamie Britton, just...wow. *slow clap*
I hope you're job is going well!

Any sort of Naomi/Emily reconciliation would be RIDICULOUS at this stage. I mean, Sophia killed herself in early September, and Emily probably found out about the cheating by October... and now it's AUGUST and they're still in this horrible miserable limbo? How are we meant to believe it can magically get better in one episode? GAH.
Job is going okay, thanks!

I guess if nothing else, in a series that has repeatedly failed to give me anything I wanted (more Katie, any Pandora at all, a plotline worthy of Naomi and Emily), they did at least throw me a bone by doing what I wanted them to do throughout series three and making Freddie die painfully. I have a feeling I may feel slightly guilty when I actually see it, though.

I'm honestly amazed that this year the writers have so little respect for their fans, their characters, and the principles of good storytelling.

It does just seem to have gone a bit Shameless, in that they have sacrificed everything else to the altar of -*edginess*-, which is a shame. They had so much potential here, and I think what makes it worse is that there were moments of brilliance in this series - like all the character development Katie got in her episode - so it's not that they can't do it, it's just that they aren't doing it. That's what really riles me. I don't expect them to be on form all the time, but they should be delivering good stuff with the occasional stumble, not a load of crap with the occasional lurch into an engaging storyline.
