botherd: (skins: don't know how i'm meant to feel)

Are we ready to do this all over again?

Apparently the Skins film has been confirmed, and it's mostly about Gen 2 with appearances from Gens 1 and 3? Honestly, I have mixed feelings about the whole thing. On the one hand, HAVEN'T WE SUFFERED ENOUGH? I feel like I've been through twelve rounds with this show and now they're asking me to go through ANOTHER. It's exhausting, you know? Skins really is an abusive boyfriend of a show.

But on the other hand, I'm not ready to give up this cast yet and it's possible that they'll be able to salvage these characters' storylines. It's going to be difficult, because they have a whole bunch of loose ends from series four to wrap up and I assume they'll want to tell a whole new story as well, but it's possible that it could be good. At the very least, the main problem that plagued series four - the insularity of the episodes - won't happen with the film.

IDK; obviously it's too early to judge, and I'm approaching the whole thing with extreme caution. But the most important thing? With new gen 2 canon on the way, that means the fandom is much less likely to die out. And that, at least, makes me incredibly happy. ♥

I agree 100% with this.

Jack Thorne's writing this -- I can't remember which episodes he's written, but it's going to be directed by Charles Martin which is AWESOME.

He co-wrote Naomi's episode last series, so that's definitely a good sign! Aaand I've just seen that he also wrote Effy's series one ep, which was awesome, but then again he also wrote Sketch's episode. Could go either way, I guess.

Sketch's episode wasn't THAT bad though, so. Definitely taking this as a good sign.

I'm writing the fluffiest piece of work right now -- stupid movie news has put me in a good mood!

I can't remember much about Sketch's actual episode, just that I hated her character. Anyway, considering that it could have been Jamie fucking Brittain writing this, Jack Thorne is definitely a positive.

Fluff is good! Frankly, I think we could all do with some fluff right now. :D

Jack Thorne is such a nice chap.

I think I'm just going to be tentatively hopeful about this whole thing :)

I love that the second gen gets to work together again (Kat and Meg can't be happy about that particular point :P) because they're always hilarious

[identity profile] botherd.livejournal.com 2010-03-20 06:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, I love that they'll be together again! We'll get another round of interviews and behind the scenes stuff, which is definitely a massive plus. :D I feel kind of sorry for Luke, though.

But he's going to be in a movie with Leighton Meester's sour-faced bf, so his life can't be THAT bad.

[identity profile] botherd.livejournal.com 2010-03-20 06:58 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL is he? I'm kind of amazed that he's actually getting any more acting work.

[identity profile] old-wp.livejournal.com 2010-03-20 07:12 pm (UTC)(link)
ME TOO, but apparently there's no accounting for taste.

[identity profile] karatam.livejournal.com 2010-03-20 07:04 pm (UTC)(link)
He's in a legit movie? Huh...

[identity profile] old-wp.livejournal.com 2010-03-20 07:12 pm (UTC)(link)
It's surprising, isn't it? LOLL Tom Felton's in it, too.

I sort of suspected (hoped?) that the finale was a set-up for a movie. I'm happy it was announced if only because it'll keep fandom alive, though I also hope the promise of new canon doesn't dissuade people from ficcing the hell out of series 4. I'm not sure if I even care about the storyline (though I'm sort of stoked for possible gen 1 / gen 2 interaction), but I'm SUPER excited that we haven't had the last of the cast yet. Yay!

[identity profile] botherd.livejournal.com 2010-03-20 07:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think people will be dissuaded from writing post-series four fic because of the film - after all, there was a ton of fic after series three even though we all knew series four was coming.

Getting more of the cast is one of the things I'm most looking forward to. MOAR MEG!

[identity profile] old-wp.livejournal.com 2010-03-20 07:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I am more of the mindset "WHAT, YOU WANT TO INFICT MOAR DAMAGE?" But, meh, I do love the characters, and the actors, so whatever. I'll probably watch it because I'm a masochist of the highest order. And, Meg. Kat in something not called "Goth" (which I will watch, with popcorn).

[identity profile] botherd.livejournal.com 2010-03-20 07:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Honestly, that was my first thought too. Now, against my better judgement, I'm... kind of getting excited about it. Probably a mistake!

I think Goth is going to be hilarious (whether intentional or not). I'm actually really looking forward to seeing the cast in new things - I'm hoping they'll show up in stuff like Doctor Who and Merlin like Joe Dempsie did.

On the whole, I liked Jack Thorne's episodes, so that's hopeful. I'll admit that at this point I'm more interested in how the movie will turn out than the US series. I think I'm just not quite ready to let go of the gen 2 cast yet and the chance to see them all together again is pretty happy. Well, you know, except Luke.

As far as I'm concerned I'm just stupidly happy we have more of the gen 2 cast!
But the most important thing? With new gen 2 canon on the way, that means the fandom is much less likely to die out. And that, at least, makes me incredibly happy. ♥
THIS. I freaking LOVE this fandom.
