Do I have to spoiler cut for American Idol results? Just in case:

SIGH. I would be more upset if Siobhan hadn't been making it kind of difficult to be a fan of hers lately, but I'm still pretty disappointed. It's like when Didi left, and I'm more sad about the wasted potential. She was SO GOOD in the beginning, IDK what happened.

The only reason I even started watching this year was because of all the promises that it was a girl's year. Remember how by the end of Hollywood week it seemed like there were a million awesome girls in the competition whereas all the boys were boring and shit? What the hell happened? I mean, all the boys are still boring and shit, but somehow all the girls but one managed to fall apart.

I guess I still think Crystal's going to win - although not if she picks more songs like whatever it was she sang this week; what a snoozefest - but I also wouldn't be remotely surprised by Lee winning. To be honest, I don't really care anymore. Can we just fastforward a few months until Crystal's album is out, please?

Haven't watched the results yet, but I got spoiled on purpose, and yeah, "sigh" is the kind of the way I feel about Siobhan getting kicked off. I haven't been liking her performances and I didn't see her pulling any amazing performances in the remaining weeks, so it's okay. What bothers me is that Michael and Aaron are still there. Not that Casey and Lee are exactly exciting, either, but, while Casey's very hit-or-miss with me, his few good performances are my favorite ones this season, and I generally enjoy Lee.

I don't even know why I started watching. Crystal, probably. I remember when auditions/Hollywood Week/semifinals were airing and how there were all these beautiful girls that looked so damn shippable and I was so tempted to make the effort of downloading those episodes and follow the season -- for them. For those girls. I didn't know much about them at the time, and I definitely didn't know Katelyn Epperly was so completely my type of musician, but... yeah. And then we (well, you) lost Katelyn and Lilly and these cute girls I'm seeing in Hollywood Week and the top 12 turned out to be a ridiculously uninspiring mess.

I'm really annoyed that they used the save on Michael, because if he'd been booted when he should have been, Siobhan probably would have got another week. I think she could have been awesome next week with Sinatra, although she seems to have lost her ability to choose songs so who knows. I can't believe how weak the top five is this year.

I think Katelyn could have been really awesome (as she showed with 'The Scientist', which I LOVED), but one mediocre performance and she got lost in the shuffle. I wasn't a fan of Lilly but she deserved a place in the Top 12 over people like Lacey and Paige. It's weird - there were so many girls who were awesome in auditions and Hollywood week that lost their way, and then there were a couple who completely outstayed their welcome.

I still don't get why they used the save on Michael. Did they honestly see him as a potential winner? Though I would have used it on Didi, who's even less of one, so I shouldn't talk. And fuck, next week is Sinatra week? I think I read somewhere Siobhan wanted to get to Jazz Week and she got cut right before it? That's just sad. She really could have done something good with that theme. And oh, shit, Aaron and Michael are going to be butchering Sinatra. I think I'm going to be sick.

The top 12 as a whole was incredibly weak, so I'm not surprised the top 5 is so underwhelming.

I'm making my way through this season out of order and watched the first Hollywood Week ep the other day, and Lilly sort of won me over with Lullaby of Birdland. But Katelyn is just someone I can imagine putting out an album I genuinely like.

I guess Mike shouldn't have gone out quite so early as the week he was saved - he's one of the better technical singers, although I don't really like his voice - but it was still pointless to save him. And, yeah, next week I bet he sings something like 'My Way' and is just generally revolting. I imagine only Crystal is going to be worth watching next week.

I actually loved Lilly's Lullaby of Birdland but I don't think she ever sang that well again, and I generally found her annoying and contrived. Katelyn had loads of potential, though.

they should have picked tori over haeley and this year wouldn't have sucked.

[identity profile] botherd.livejournal.com 2010-04-29 02:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Honestly, I don't remember Tori at all. Haeley was terrible though; they could have chosen *anyone* over her.

i'm not surprised you don't remember her, because i didn't think anything i saw her do on the show was that impressive. but i think she's ridiculously talented and has amazing control. this is her when she was 12, haha:

i have absolutely no idea how they could have picked haeley over this. maybe they figured tori would make it anyway or something.

Oh, she's good! I think they liked the idea of Haeley as a black Taylor Swift, and they just sort of ignored the small fact that... she can't sing.

I just really wish that Mike had been sent home when he was supposed to. He annoys the hell out of me.

I'm going to miss Siobhan, not just for her singing (which I enjoyed) but for the sheer WTF? she always brought to the show. It's going to be rather boring personality-wise in the coming weeks.

If Crystal gets sent home before the finale, I think I'm going to simply cry

WORD ON ALL ACCOUNTS.

Especially the Siobhan WTF factor.

And if Crystal leaves, dude. The show will lose a lot of viewers. But then again, even if she does, I'm 100% buying her album.

I will admit being very disappointed when they showed her having a boyfriend. Totally wanted her to be on the gay team.

[identity profile] botherd.livejournal.com 2010-04-29 04:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm so in denial about Crystal's boyfriend! Seriously, how is that girl not gay.

[identity profile] botherd.livejournal.com 2010-04-29 04:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Mike really annoys me too. All the posturing and the picking people up (who picks up Alicia freaking Keys??) and the cheesiness, ugh.

Yeah, the show's going to be super dull now. Siobhan brought a lot to the show and it's going to feel weird without her.

I'm pretty confident that Crystal's going to make it to the finale, just because I can't see who could possibly overtake her.

I think a big issue with girls vs. boys is that so much of the voting base is silly teenage girls who vote for the boys they think are cute rather than the most talented singers. My problem is not that there are so many boys left, it's that the boys who are left SUCK. Lee is pitchy as hell and all his songs sound the same because of his gross Nickleback voice, Aaron struggles to even hit the majority of the notes he sings (and misses half the time) and has zero originality, Michael has a nice tone but is only good with one genre (R&B) and comes off as a giant douchebag, and Casey is riding on his guitar playing and good looks (ugh, I do not think he's attractive) because his vocal range is very limited and originality is also nowhere to be found. How these guys made it so far and continue to be praised by the judges completely baffles me. Like, really, America? Really?

Crystal has more talent in her pinky finger than any of them. She has good tone, good range, plays her instrument well and has lots of originality. There's no reason why after auditioning thousands of singers the Top 12 shouldn't be composed entirely of people as talented as her. The Crystal Bowersoxes and Adam Lamberts of the competition shouldn't be so suprisingly good, they should be the norm.

Anyway, I was a little worried about Crystal's chances of winning but she wasn't even in the bottom 3 after whatever the hell that song was this week, so I think she'll take the whole thing. Poor Siobhan has been so wildly inconsistent and mouthy with the judges that I'm particularly sad to see her go.

The thing is, neither was Lee, and he was really bad this week instead of just being boring like Crystal. I'm not convinced he won't end up beating her, but I think if he wins it'll be a sign that no-one except a moderately attractive white guy with a guitar can ever win American Idol again.
