Well, fuck. So Nick Clegg jumped into bed with the Tories and David Cameron is our new PM. (I realise that the deal with the Lib Dems isn't official yet, but Cameron is becoming Prime Minister AS I SPEAK TYPE.) Ugh, I am predictably less than thrilled. I think, though, that really all roads - a minority Tory government, a Lib/Lab coalition, or the Lib/Con coalition we've got - lead to the same thing: another election in a year or so, probably with a Tory majority.

At least for the time being we have some Lib Dems in government. I just hope they stick to their principles.

For the record: I know everyone's tired of Labour and no one likes Gordon Brown or whatever, but I think they've done some AWESOME things in the last thirteen years.

It is pretty distressing. The idea of Osborne being in charge of our country's budget kind of makes me want to emigrate somewhere with a brighter financial future, like Greece.

Here's to Labour surprising us all and kicking some butt whilst in opposition. I couldn't be doing with 13 years worth of Tory's crapping over our schools and futures.

I dunno - if the Lib Dems can get electoral reform out of whatever deal they make it could make the next election look very different. It is a bit depressing that they've apparently sided with the Tories, but it's still better than an outright Tory majority and a lot of people would've hated them if they'd sided with Labour because the Tories 'won'.
And whilst I agree that Labour are a lot better than the Tories and they've done some good things, they have also done some TERRIBLE things, so I'm not relaly 100% behind them or anything.

George Osborne is loathsome. A lot of my family work in the public sector, I work in the voluntary sector, and now we're pretty much all fucked.

I'm really looking forward to Labour regrouping - I think this could be really good for them.

Here's the thing: I don't remotely trust that the Conservatives will actually give us a referendum on electoral reform. I would love it, but I don't see it happening simply because it's not in their best interests.

Personally, I think the good that Labour's done has outweighed the bad. My politics lean more towards the Lib Dems but I have a lot of respect for Labour.

I trust them to give you a referendum, but they're also allowed to use the Ashcroft millions to campaign for a NO vote. Whereas Lib Dems have sod all in the kitty for the YES vote or a second election.

You raise a good point. Blah, I hate this.

I actually quite liked Gordon Brown, he was solid. Plus, I preferred the Labour policies to the LibDems, who I thought were slightly misguided and away with the fairies... That and the fact that out electoral system is still FPTP, so there was obviously going to either be a Tory victory or a hung parliament. Just bitter about 4 years of Tory power! Don't mean to offend anyone who is equally gutted with the result of Cameron being the PM.
On the plus, the Tories did announce that they would consider a referendum on the electoral reform but who knows whether they will pull through. I do want that to happen but it will mean more hung parliaments in the future! Oh, UK!

Yeah, I was quite sad to see Gordon Brown go! I liked that he was no good at playing the game, because it made him seem more trustworthy than someone like Cameron.

Ugh, I hate the thought of four years of the Tories. So depressing!

Yeah, definitely.. he wasn't a guy for the media.. but at least he was passionate in a more honest way then that creep Cameron! Maaaan I hope there's another election in a year and that the UK will come to their senses! Wishful thinking :)
All depends on whether an electoral referendum actually takes place..
At least the US got it right.. (all ways look on the bright side?)

I read something the other day that actually summed up a load of things Labour have done in the last 13 years, most of which I now take absolutely for granted and couldn't imagine life without. :)

It's just a case of sitting back and seeing what happens. I really hope some sort of electoral reform happens though, not that I trust Cameron that much, either.

Here, here. And I liked Gordon Brown. He got a fucking tough break. Not many could have done much better with the set of circumstances he got.

Absolutely, they've done a lot of great things. I think it's easy to forget that in light of the few big mistakes (like the war) and the economy and whatever, but they really have made a great difference.

I completely agree. The media's been ridiculously harsh on him and I definitely got a bit "Leave Gordon alone!" towards the end of the campaign.
