It's never easy being an England fan.

LOLLL, that was one of the worst pieces of goalkeeping I have ever seen. I would not be remotely surprised if we lost this game.

ETA: A draw. WORLD CUP VICTORY, HERE WE COME. :/

It was pretty impressive. As in, impressively awful. Our commentators said, "If this is your first time watching soccer, that doesn't usually happen. It doesn't even happen in schoolyard games."

Oh God, I don't know whether to laugh or cry.

[identity profile] rock-whirlpool.livejournal.com 2010-06-12 08:38 pm (UTC)(link)
soccer? what is this sport you speak of?

[identity profile] thelastgoodname.livejournal.com 2010-06-12 08:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Given that we can't score unless the other team falls down, it's pretty obvious we don't play football in my country.

[identity profile] rock-whirlpool.livejournal.com 2010-06-12 08:47 pm (UTC)(link)
....ok fair enough. :P

[identity profile] supergoodtimes.livejournal.com 2010-06-12 07:42 pm (UTC)(link)
IT'S SO EMBARRASSING.

[identity profile] botherd.livejournal.com 2010-06-12 08:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Seriously! I'M SO ASHAMED TO BE ENGLISH RIGHT NOW.

[identity profile] liev.livejournal.com 2010-06-12 08:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I was screaming so loud I think I actually scared my dad. This awesome piece of goalkeeping paired with tons of missed chances made for an highly frustrating and unsatisfying end result. Actually, the fitting use of your Keira icon might be the most enjoyable thing about this match.

[identity profile] botherd.livejournal.com 2010-06-12 08:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Honestly I don't know why I get excited about the World Cup - England matches are ALWAYS this frustrating. Sigh. I thought this was going to be an easy match, but I should never underestimate England's ability to disappoint.

[identity profile] liev.livejournal.com 2010-06-12 08:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, to be fair, I think the US is an underestimated opponent and could be a real pain in the ass for other teams as well. They didn't exactly showcast this in this game though, they only really had like two or three chances. However, they had two outstanding players: a defender and the goalkeeper. I guess sometimes that makes all the difference.

And they may be frustrating, but at least they are entertaining and usually keep you on the edge of your seat, unlike many other teams. And compared to Austria's national team they are amazing, so I don't really regret preferring England in general.

[identity profile] botherd.livejournal.com 2010-06-12 09:03 pm (UTC)(link)
That's true, they're apparently ranked 14th in the world, but it was still our mistake that cost us the match. You're right that England are entertaining, I just wish it was more often for good reasons. ;)

[identity profile] liev.livejournal.com 2010-06-12 09:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I think I may just be physically unable to support/love any team that has a legitimate shot at winning the title. England is a good team, so why can't they they have ONE capable goalkeeper?

[identity profile] nitanitro.livejournal.com 2010-06-14 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
They do, but he's sitting on the bloody bench. And I'm not talking about Calamity James :-)

[identity profile] old-wp.livejournal.com 2010-06-12 08:40 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL If it makes you less embarrassed, we're not THAT terrible? ;) Poor Green, he'll never live that down.

[identity profile] rock-whirlpool.livejournal.com 2010-06-12 08:45 pm (UTC)(link)
England will hate him forever for that...

[identity profile] botherd.livejournal.com 2010-06-12 08:48 pm (UTC)(link)
It's like the time Gareth Southgate missed that penalty. It's basically all he'll ever be remembered for.

[identity profile] botherd.livejournal.com 2010-06-12 08:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Lol no, you're not that bad, but it doesn't really help! ;) I mean, your goal was OUR mistake, not your skill. We really should've won that match, and now I have to worry about how we'll fare against fucking Slovenia and Algeria. LOLLL, the World Cup is ALWAYS like this.

[identity profile] fab-fairy.livejournal.com 2010-06-12 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh dear. It went a bit wrong didn't it? You have my sympathy (I am actually one of those Welsh people that thinks seeing as we're APPALLING at football, I should probably support England - like with cricket. Not rugby though :p)

[identity profile] holeybubushka.livejournal.com 2010-06-13 04:32 am (UTC)(link)
I stayed up late to watch it with some friends from uni and man, if ever there was such a thing as an epic fail, this was it. Poor guy. It wasn't really his fault they lost the game- I counted at least three golden chances on goal England failed to take. They should have converted at least one. It's just if you're a goalie and you make a calamitous mistake, well, it costs your side a goal. *shudders*

But yeah, my grade soccer the goalie would be expected to stop that, so, yeah....I kinda hope he plays the next match for his confidence but I bet most of the British public hopes he doesn't.

On the back of this performance, there is no way you guys are gonna win the world cup.

I don't know whether to stay up tonight (2 am) and watch Germany carve my national team up into teeny, tiny bits. If you think being an England supporter is bad, try be an Aussie.

(You probs don't follow rugby, but man, I WAS SO EXCITED WE BEAT YOU. I hate the English rugby team way more than I do Jamie Britton. Tru Fax)

LOLLL. THE FATES KEPT ME FROM WATCHING THE ACTUAL GAME, SO WHEN PEOPLE TOLD ME IT WAS A DRAW I JUST SAT THERE WONDERING IF I WAS BEING TROLLED IRL.
