Karma for '66.

WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT REF'S PROBLEM? THAT WAS QUITE CLEARLY A GOAL. GAHHHHHHHHHHHH.

At least things are looking up and it seems like we're still in the game, but if we lose by one goal I'm going to be so fucking angry. God, the referees at this World Cup have been shocking.

ETA: Well, that was humiliating.

Everyone seems to be assured that this MAJOR FUCKING FUCK-UP means that in the future there will be instant replay/goal tech on the nets/some sort of electronic assurance that the refs can't fuck up so badly again.

Because yes, that was quite clearly a goal. Not that whatever happens in the future helps right now. I just hope they don't let it get to them for the second half.

[identity profile] botherd.livejournal.com 2010-06-27 03:51 pm (UTC)(link)
That would be good, because it's ridiculous that football doesn't have anything like that when lots of other sports do. Not that it would've helped in this instance anyway. :(

[identity profile] fivewhatfive.livejournal.com 2010-06-27 03:06 pm (UTC)(link)
EPIC BULLSHIT. THERE WAS NO DOUBT ABOUT THIS ONE, IT WAS TOTALLY A GOAL.

God, the referees at this World Cup have been shocking.
I KNOW. WHERE ARE THEY FINDING THESE PEOPLE?

[identity profile] botherd.livejournal.com 2010-06-27 03:51 pm (UTC)(link)
THE BOWELS OF HELL, PROBABLY. Not that we would've won anyway, sigh.

Germany was crazy fast. Still, a ref mess up like that when you could've tied the score kinda kills players' motivation, too.

[identity profile] botherd.livejournal.com 2010-06-27 04:26 pm (UTC)(link)
True, but it's not really an excuse for how badly we played. :(

[identity profile] liev.livejournal.com 2010-06-27 03:31 pm (UTC)(link)
This is why they should be allowed to use video evidence for this kind of stuff, at least where goals are concerned. Now England's without a chance of winning because their subsequently open defence (which is quite weak anyways) practically invites all the fast German strikers. Sometimes I hate football, especially when Germany's winning and England's losing :(

THIS. Although even if we'd won this match we certainly would've lost against Argentina in the next one, and that probably would've been even worse. :(

I totes agree on the ref thing, but to go nuts at the decision? No. Ok? The US had 2 goals taken away from them in group matches but they still topped their group. Kaka also got sent off, but apparently it was a rly good dive so...even in the opening match the ref disqualified a goal for offside when it DEFINITELY wasn't. That's not mentioning numerous handballs (which wouldve resulted in penalties) that weren't given to a number of teams.

It's jux that the poor referee-ing hasn't been mentioned much at all until it goes against england's favor. Idk, that's what pisses me off the most I guess, up til now when refs make mistakes like this, they'd be pointed out then forgotten like 5' after. In my country anw. Just my opinion.

[identity profile] botherd.livejournal.com 2010-06-27 06:08 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think that's true at all. Obviously people are going to be most outraged when a decision goes against their team, but I thought that Kaka's red card and the US disallowed goal were just as terrible. And it's perfectly reasonable to be upset about a referee decision that's quite obviously wrong.

Then, like you said, that's only in your country. From what I've seen, everyone has been pretty outraged by how referees have been fucking up left and right. People should go nuts at this decision, shit like this happening at the WORLD CUP is unacceptable.

[identity profile] muiriosa.livejournal.com 2010-06-27 06:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Just to add that there has been a general consensus here (Ireland) that there has been some very (very) poor referee decisions in the world cup thus far. The vast majority of after match commentary has mentioned the need for a video referee system to be introduced.

(But to be fair, we're obviously biased towards it because of Henry's/France's handball that was missed in our qualifiers)

[identity profile] botherd.livejournal.com 2010-06-27 07:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I think it's likely that some sort of video technology will be introduced after some of these farcical decisions. I mean, other sports use it and it works just fine, so I don't see why it wouldn't for football.

I didn't see the qualifying game you mentioned, but it seems like almost all teams have had a terrible decision go against them.

[identity profile] old-wp.livejournal.com 2010-06-27 07:12 pm (UTC)(link)
I didn't get to watch the England game, which I'm glad about now, but they CONTINUE to be fucking awful. This is a disgrace.

[identity profile] botherd.livejournal.com 2010-06-27 07:23 pm (UTC)(link)
IKR? In theory we have some top class players but they've been absolutely abysmal throughout the whole cup. IDK if it's the players or Capello or what, but I feel like we need to scrap everyone and start again from scratch. Ugh.

(Sorry that Mexico are currently being pummeled by Argentina. :( This is not a good day for football. ETA: Okay, I wasn't actually watching the Argentina-Mexico match but I've just seen the goals on the BBC website. ANOTHER fucking terrible referee decision! What the hell is going on!)

I WAS ABOUT TO SAY THE FIRST GOAL WAS ILLEGAL. THE FUCK.

[identity profile] botherd.livejournal.com 2010-06-27 07:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Clearly the referees all got together before the Cup and made bets on who can make the most outrageous call. I mean, what can you even say to this bullshit? Fifa needs to make a LOT of changes.

[identity profile] supergoodtimes.livejournal.com 2010-06-27 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I mean, I don't hate Capello but what kind of crack was he on keeping Rooney on? Also Defoe.. shocking. That linesman and goalkeeper were total bullshit.. it seemed hopeful until Germany scored their third goal.
Fair play to them though, the were faster and stronger.
After that I was all "Come on then Mexico!" and then I was all "oh"..
Pretty much was Argentina to slate Germany though.... not bitter... honest :)
