'FlashForward' really bugs me as a title and I don't know why.

Apparently FlashForward is starting tonight on Five (hurrah for UK telly not being a million years behind the US for once!) but I already saw the first episode via the magic of the internet. And I thought it was awesome! I didn't realise it, but apparently I'm SO READY for another sci-fi mindfuck a la Lost.

I'll get a nitpick out of the way first: it really bugged me when John Cho's character (IDK anyone's name yet, sorry) concluded that he can't have been asleep during his flashforward, because he wasn't dreaming. YOU DON'T DREAM FOR THE ENTIRE DURATION OF YOUR SLEEP CYCLE, FFS.

Also, I thought it was hilarious when, FOUR HOURS after the flashforward, the FBI people were like "I have a genius idea! Let's make a website so people can share their experiences!" as if the ENTIRE INTERNET wouldn't have already collapsed under the weight of people talking about it. I mean, it'd be like when MJ died, times a billion.

I don't have many thoughts on the characters yet, but one thing I really hated was when Joseph Fiennes's character said that he "needed" to hear about Penny from Lost's flashforward, and then when she was all miserable and feeling like a terrible person for breaking up their marriage in the future, he didn't even admit that he might be responsible! O hai, Shakespeare, you ARE a crappy husband, and I hope Penny DOES leave you for Norrington.

But despite all my complaining, I actually REALLY LOVED the show and am all kinds of intrigued about the plot. I feel like it's way too early to start speculating (although apparently it's based on a novel, so I guess it must be easy to find answers if you want them) but I'm definitely going along for the ride. :D And omg, the ending GENUINELY CREEPED ME OUT (which possibly makes me extremely lame, but whatevs. WHO WAS THE CREEPY UNAFFECTED GUY??).

In conclusion: WATCH THIS SHOW. I need people to flail with!

I thought I wasn't going to like it, but then [livejournal.com profile] parcae and I caught the repeat of the premiere before Dollhouse last Friday, and it was unexpectedly awesome! I just hope it doesn't get all lame like Lost did.

I'm kind of expecting it to get lame like Lost (which I still watch, because I'm invested now and have to see it through to the bitter end) but I think they could have at least one really great season.

Ooh, right yes - I hadn't heard about this until today, but I'm definitely going to watch it. It's about time I had a new show to get into!

I haven't read all of your post, as it looked like there might be vague spoilers, so I'll come back and read it later.

I'm tentatively looking forward to it...

Sorry, yes, I should have warned for spoilers! I hope you like the show; I think it has a lot of potential.

S'alright! Turns out I don't actually have channel 5 anyway! So, no Flash Forward for me *sigh* Though I think that True Blood starts next week so hopefully I'll be able to watch that!

Oh, lame! Although there are always, um, other sources for that kind of thing. ;)

The relatives from america works for me!

Ah, I should probably get me one of those...

I need to do the same for Dollhouse - can't believe I haven't seen any of it yet! But, yes, I shall explore other means.

Not youtube, though - I watched the last two seasons of The L Word there and, well, let's just say it didn't add to the experience!

If you have a fast connection, look into torrents. :)

And Dollhouse is definitely worth watching! It takes a few episodes to really pick up, but once you hit ep 6 it's awesome.

Well, episode 6 is always where things start to get good ;) It's not called 'Naomi' is it, and features some rather hot lesbian sex by a lake...?

Cool, will indeed check out torrents. I'm sure the nice boys upstairs who let us use their internets won't mind!!

Defin has a lot of potential, but what bugs me is that it seems like a self fulfilling prophecy...I mean how much of what is about to happen wouldn't have happened had they not seen the future? (ie would Olivia leave Mark had she not seen it??)

Time travel etc hurts my head :(

But as above, I hope this doesn't turn into another Lost (loved season one but downhill from there for me)

[identity profile] botherd.livejournal.com 2009-09-28 08:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh man, time travel hurts my head too. I don't mind so much if things turn out to be self-fulfilling prophecies, but it'll annoy me if people manage to *change* their futures. (Although, what if you saw something really horrible, like yourself getting raped or murdered or something? Wouldn't you do everything in your power not to be in the same place?)

... it's giving me a headache already.
