Obligatory Thursday Skins Post
Okay, I... am not sure how I feel about this episode. I think I need to watch it again to collect my thoughts but right now... IDK. :/
One thing I UNRESERVEDLY LOVED: Katie asking Emily to stay. OMG, that whole scene had me flailing so hard! TWINS ♥
And, you know, Emily and Naomi had some cute moments too! Like the goggles, and "ours", and the random Mexican party. (Does Naomi just have ponchos and fake moustaches lying around? LOL FOREVER.) But they were kind of overwhelmed by the stupid manufactured angst which didn't even seem NECESSARY. You want to write a story with Naomi cheating and Emily getting jealous? Fine. You don't need to add a SUICIDAL STALKER to that mix. (Also, lol, I already wrote Naomi cheating on Emily at an
I also kind of hated that Emily managed to make Sophia's death All About Emily. Like, her brother was RIGHT THERE, upset because his sister KILLED HERSELF, but instead it's all about Emily's angst? Blah. I kind of feel like they had a potentially really interesting story here with Sophia and Naomi and they just told it completely the wrong way.
On a shallow note, I still hate Naomi's hair. Mostly I just find it hard to see her as the same Naomi she was last series. :(
Freddie was such a self-centred douche when Emily was trying to talk to him, SURPRISE. And, I'm sorry, but I hate Cook and am not looking forward to his episode next week. (PLEASE tell me that wasn't Cook/Naomi in the trailer. DNW.)
I'm not even going to talk about Freffy. Although I appreciated Effy's screentime nonetheless. As for Katie's new boyfriend, THAT NEVER HAPPENED OKAY HE DOESN'T EXIST LALALA I'M NOT LISTENING. And, I'm starting to worry that we're not going to get the epic Katie/Effy confrontation that we NEED. Maybe in Katie's ep?
I feel like I'm being really negative, when I didn't actually dislike it all that much? Definitely needs a rewatch.
Random note to finish: I have the same toothbrush as Naomi!

Fandom has ruined this show and this couple. No, wait- the show did that all by itself
I have a finished story (for reals) which I don't give a fuck about because I've obsessed over this show for nine months and its nothing but a pile of poorly written tripe. You're clever- can't you see how ineptly the whole naomi thing was handled?!!!!!
I'm sorry, but I think I need to break up with this show :(

I do agree that the Naomi thing was ineptly handled, probably because the character focus was given to Emily instead and told as a detective story, which is a ridiculous way to frame the narrative and detracts from the story they're trying to tell. The sex with Emily could have made sense if it was about Naomi desperately clinging to her in the wake of the stalker reveal, holding on as she feels everything unravel; I'd have to watch it again to see if it could be read that way. Although honestly, I felt like the sex scene was more fanservice than a plot device.
I'm not trying to say the storytelling wasn't flawed, but (sex scene aside) I've come to the conclusion that the whole thing was painfully in character for Naomi, and it actually makes me love her all the more. (Not that what she did wasn't terrible, but I get it.)

And yeah...maybe. But it was bullshit after bullshit- she sold her drugs as well? Isn;t the cheating enough?
And the sex scene....just ruins it. Like....I can't get over how awful that is. Finding out the girl who cheated with killed herself over you and then hhaving giggly sex with your unknowing girlfriend? No one except a callous bitch would do that.
Emily should break up with her and never take her back. Seriously.
The show did the worst thing to this couple- make Naomi act like a jack ass and created manufactured angst. I wish I wasn't so angry, but I am. Maybe I need to sleep on it to, I guess.
Wait, how is it in character for Naomi? ( I enjoy your perspective because you're a writer and have a solid graps on character progression) Because to me, they really went too far in making this character unlikeable (and make Emily the victim, when, and I say this as an Emily fan, she's a bit of needy, insecure, pedestal-loving, immature prat. Why couldn't Emily's insecurities ruined them?)

I think I'm going to watch the episode again and then do a big meta post about why I thought the lying and cheating was in character for Naomi.
