Hey, flist! Does anyone have any film recommendations? Because while I watch a LOT of TV I hardly watch any films at all, and now that I've run out of TV shows to marathon I thought I'd start watching films instead. :D I'm open to pretty much all genres except horror, and I especially like films that pass the Bechdel test.

Seriously, when I say I hardly watch any films at all I mean that you could recommend me something really mainstream that everyone and their mother has seen, and I probably won't have seen it. So, yeah, any suggestions at all would be appreciated!

Ooh, I have a friends who never watches movies either. Have you seen Titanic, because if so you’ve got one up on her. I’m sitting here staring at my (rather large) movie collection so I’ll toss out some diverse suggestions you might enjoy...not all of these are what you’d call good movies; some are just straight-up silly entertainment...

Comedy gold: Drop Dead Gorgeous (mockumentary about a small-town beauty pageant. basically an all-female cast. fucking hilarious.), Zombieland (best zombie comedy since Shaun of the Dead…which you should also watch), Saved! (teenage Christian girl gets knocked up by her gay boyfriend. religious hypocrisy made funny!)

Action packed: City of God (life in the slums of Rio de Janeiro. PHENOMENAL movie.), Children of Men (dystopic future where humans have become infertile. sounds like a cheesy premise but it’s really not.)

Drama-rama: Girl, Interrupted (Angelina Jolie is crazy and it’s awesome), The Reader (a little slow, but with Kate Winslet being her usual amazing self), The Virgin Suicides (lol, self-explanatory title.)

Fantasy Fun: Stardust (my fave fantasy film of the past decade, full of Claire Danes and Michelle Pheiffer hotness)

So Bad They’re Amazing: The Fifth Element (um...scifi where Bruce Willis and Mila Jovovich save the world. completely ridiculous, completely awesome), Starship Troopers (earth is at war with bug aliens. hilariously badly acted satire of militaristic culture.)

I have actually seen Titanic! *pwnz* But I've only seen a couple of the other ones you mentioned (Girl, Interrupted and Stardust, both of which I loved) so I'll check out the rest. Thanks for the recs!
