I suspect that tomorrow is not going to be a good day.

Shamelessly stolen from [livejournal.com profile] andthatisthat:

So, who's voted? My candidate isn't going to win - I sadly live in a safe Tory constituency, and I voted Lib Dem - but I still think it's important to have your voice heard. If you're eligible and you haven't voted yet, do it now! There's still a little over two hours left to do so. :D

(I'm crossing my fingers that I won't wake up tomorrow to find that David Cameron is Prime Minister, but I'm not optimistic. SIGH.)

Voted twice! Well only once for the general but I was in Sheffield (home) this morning and Manchester (student) this afternoon so I was registered at both. At home my constituency is Lib Dem (Hallam, as is Clegg's Hallam) but I voted Labour.
I'm crossing my fingers that I won't wake up tomorrow to find that David Cameron is Prime Minister, but I'm not optimistic. SIGH. SAAAAME. OH GOD. I reckon I'll follow the election specials this evening with several glasses of wine. I think the best i can hope for is a hung parliament, unfortunately.

[identity profile] botherd.livejournal.com 2010-05-06 07:26 pm (UTC)(link)
I think heavy drinking is probably the only way to deal with the election results tonight! Although I have to get up early tomorrow so instead I'll probably just go to bed and try not to think about it. I'd be fine with a hung parliament if it was Labour/Lib Dem but if the Tories are in there it would probably be as bad as if they had an outright majority. :(

[identity profile] supergoodtimes.livejournal.com 2010-05-06 08:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I don't see the Lib Dems collating with the Tories but with a hung parliament there's always a risk of there being a bunch of hard nail right wingers that put a spanner in the works.
I think waiting until tomorrow for the results would be the best anyway because the result won't be final until then.
I might watch that Alternative Election Night show in C4, might take the edge off!

[identity profile] rock-whirlpool.livejournal.com 2010-05-06 07:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not quite old enough to vote so I've been carefully manipulating all of my friends votes instead :)
I will actually cry if David Cameron becomes our Prime Minister.

[identity profile] botherd.livejournal.com 2010-05-06 07:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Nice one! That totally counts. :D

And, ME TOO. I dread to think how much he'll fuck things up.

[identity profile] sprads.livejournal.com 2010-05-06 07:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I made a tactical risk and voted Labour. I also have my fingers crossed that Cameron wont become Prime Minister but...

[identity profile] botherd.livejournal.com 2010-05-06 08:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Tactical voting makes sense, and I would've voted Labour if there was a chance they'd get in here over the Tories. But as it's a safe Tory seat I went for the party I most agree with.

[identity profile] sprads.livejournal.com 2010-05-07 06:43 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah I know what you mean about Safe Tories areas- My home town has always been Tory and I know that it still is.

BUT where I go to Uni and where I voted is LABOUR! I am so glad I got the vote I wanted - shame I'm going to move out that area in August :o(

The rest of England doesn't look good does it- it's lost in a load of blue... lets how red comes out more when it finishes!

[identity profile] musicffyou.livejournal.com 2010-05-06 07:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm from the States and if I could I would vote Lib Dem. I watched the election debates on youtube and Nick Clegg has some really good ideas. Cameron just seems a bit too smooth/posh for my liking and Brown just looks tired. So out of the three I feel like Clegg could do some good for the UK.

When the results come in could someone let me know? Thanks :D

[identity profile] botherd.livejournal.com 2010-05-06 08:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I pretty much agree with your assessments of the leaders. I like the Lib Dems' policies a lot, and hopefully we end up with a hung parliament they'll be able to do some good. Too bad they'll never get a majority.

I'm sure any good news website will be able to tell you the results tomorrow morning. ;)

[identity profile] botherd.livejournal.com 2010-05-06 08:35 pm (UTC)(link)
THIS. At least our conservatives aren't as bad as your conservatives? :/

[identity profile] old-wp.livejournal.com 2010-05-06 08:37 pm (UTC)(link)
LOLL Yeah, our conservatives are total assholes.

[identity profile] botherd.livejournal.com 2010-05-06 08:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, ours are too, but I guess there are degrees of assholery. Although one prospective Tory MP thinks gays can be cured by exorcising their demons, so maybe ours are catching up!

[identity profile] fivewhatfive.livejournal.com 2010-05-06 10:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Although one prospective Tory MP thinks gays can be cured by exorcising their demons, so maybe ours are catching up!
LOLLLLLLLL. Oh god, conservatives. It's election year here too and I suspect I'll have to work on it, so it'll be twice the stress :(

[identity profile] boppingalone.livejournal.com 2010-05-06 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I voted Lib Dem, and it's more than likely that seat is safe :)

I'm pulling at all-nighter so that at least when I find out the results, I'll be far too tired and delusional to get pissed off. I can then sleep for the next four years or so.

[identity profile] botherd.livejournal.com 2010-05-07 03:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, I hope your Lib Dem seat was safe! I can't believe they actually lost seats though. :(

I don't loathe the Tories either, Jules. I really feel the economy is the most important facet of this election. No one, even those of us living in your former criminal dumping grounds, wants the British economy to go into free fall,. Your debt is enormous. If the Tories can reduce it, then god speed to them. Socially, they're not too bad either, certainly better than the "mean party" conservatives over here who don't like public services that won't deliver them instant votes at an election (universities and our public broadcasters took massive funding cuts, plus they made information gathering for journalists about ten times harder...just, ugh). That one bigoted MP seems like an outlier and may not reflect the Tories as a whole...

That being said, I would have voted LibDem because they have some sensible ideas about debt reduction and their social policies are great. Why replace those old nuclear subs for like for like? Save the money. The immigrant thing...I think costs them loads of votes, but is the right thing morally.

Also, proportial representation is only system which seems truly democratic to me.

Alas, the LibDems tanked something big time. Very sad aboout that. WHY DID THE MEDIA GET MY HOPES UP. My fault for checking the Guardian daily, I guess.

(We have an election later in the year as well, and TRUST ME, Tony Abbott <<<<<<<<<<Nick Cameron, I swear. (pps- Please don't stress, Julia! I get stressed when you get stressed)

[identity profile] botherd.livejournal.com 2010-05-07 03:12 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree that the economy is the most important issue, but my worry is that they won't fix it - they might reduce the debt, but at what cost? You can't cut £6bn of public spending in a year without cutting jobs, and people in my immediate family, including myself, work jobs that rely on government spending. This is why I'm worried.

But, hey, if they can save a bunch of rich people hundreds of thousands of pounds by raising the inheritance tax threshold to £1 million, I guess the Tories aren't so bad. *eyeroll*

The problem with the Lib Dems is that the voters are too spread out - they got 23% of the popular vote but less than 10% of the seats. That's why we need proportional respresentation, but as it would only help the Lib Dems the other parties will never go for it.

[identity profile] botherd.livejournal.com 2010-05-07 02:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, we can definitely agree to disagree. :) And, you know, even though I very much dislike the Tories and disagree with their policies, I completely respect people who made an informed decision to vote for them.

I don't think Phillippa Stroud is representative of the Tories, but I still find it worrying that the Tories can put forward a candidate like that, if that makes sense. I know David Cameron is trying very hard to seem gay-friendly but the fact that he didn't want to repeal Section 28 back in 2003 suggests to me that he's not actually interested in or committed to equality, he just wants to curry favour with minority groups. :/

[identity profile] holeybubushka.livejournal.com 2010-05-07 06:50 am (UTC)(link)
Whoops, David Cameron, not Nick Cameron. God, I just totally besmirched the good LibDem name right there
