botherd | (no subject)

God, this is a particularly soporific day at work. For some reason everyone else seems to be super busy today so there's not a whole lot of conversation to be had. Not even Zanna, the guide dog, wants to say hello to me today. And, okay, I've finished the induction period early and I have work I could be getting on with, but it's just vague ~planning stuff and I'm feeling lazy. WHY IS IT NOT HOMETIME YET.

Mostly I'm looking forward to getting home so I can watch American Idol. Fair warning: I'm getting hugely into it this year, so I'll probs end up talking about it a lot. I'm already completely in love with Siobhan and Crystal (and omg, Crystal pings my gaydar hard) and there are a couple more that I'm prepared to love if they give a knockout performance (Katelyn, Didi). The boys all suck, apart from Alex Lambert who's kind of adorable with his stagefright and mullet and surprisingly good voice, and Lilly is so hideous I want to PUNCH HER IN THE FACE. OMG, I hate her and her affected hipster bullshit so much.

Wow, I feel better getting that off my chest.

I'm still not feeling any better about this series of Skins - is it true that Jamie Brittain wrote Effy's episode? UGH - but I've started writing a kind of lulzy AU and that's cheered me up a bit. I don't want to say too much about it yet in case I end up hyping it up too much and then kind of abandoning it (y halo thar 80s AU), but it's a lot of fun so far. :D

Crystal is such a lez. I love her and her missing teeth.

She's like, Adam Lambert levels of obviously gay. I just saw her performance this week and she continues to be AWESOME.

I love Crystal. Like, really love Crystal. Every time she comes on screen my wife and I yell "BOWERSOX!" really loud. Our neighbours hate us.

The thing about Crystal is that she is the Buffy character Tara, reborn to be awesome and slightly toothless. As someone who was completely in love with Tara and she totally made me gay, I recognised her as Tara pretty much straight away. She doesn't look like the actress who played her, she just looks like...her.

I'm insane. I'm seeing Tara in American Idol contestants.

Siobhan is also hardcore awesome. I don't hate Lily, I like that she doesn't sound like every other contestant. However, at least one of those three are going to have to sing a song from this decade, because 'older songs' are becoming their thing.

I kind of see what you mean about Tara! They don't really look alike but they have a similar vibe, definitely.

I actually really liked Lilly in Hollywood week, when she sang 'Lullaby of Birdland' and was awesome, but since then I don't think she's sounded as good and she's just sort of become a parody of herself. I feel like her quirkiness is really contrived, whereas someone like Siobhan's quirkiness is genuine.

I'm totally enthused about Idol this year too, perhaps because it's the first time in a couple of years that there's a solid chance of a female win. I'm all about Crystal and Siobhan, although Didi won me over this week too.

I haven't really watched Idol since the McPhee year, but all the rumblings about it being a girl's year has made me all excited about it again.

I have, and I'm kind of shocked and thrilled in equal measures. I didn't see three out of that four coming, AT ALL.

No, nor did I! I'm disappointed that Katelyn and Alex have gone, but so thrilled that I'll never have to see Lilly's corpse face again.

I'm really shocked about Katelyn - I honestly thought she'd built up enough goodwill in her previous two performances to survive a less-good week, but apparently not. I was never really a fan of Alex, but I expected him to be there until the very end, possibly even to win it, so I was stunned to see he'd gone. And yeah, I won't miss Lilly at all. It's all about the BOWERSOX-MAGNUS top 2, if you ask me.
