Dec. 1st, 2010 09:27 pm- *pokes last post* Anyone else want fic? I just want lots of excuses to write!
- Stuff I am inordinately excited about: SMASH HITS LADY GAGA SPECIAL, OH MY GOD. (I'm sure people who didn't grow up with Smash Hits won't understand why this is potentially so amazing, so you'll just have to trust me that it is.) If there's not a biscuit tin interview I will be v. disappointed.
- I'm getting pretty fed up with the snow already, even though a) we haven't had a huge amount where I am, and b) I got to leave work an hour early today. The fact that I've started finding snow annoying instead of fun is a sign that I'm getting old, isn't it? :(
- Random TV rec of the day: BOARDWALK EMPIRE. Is anyone watching it? If not, you should be - it's this new HBO show about Prohibition-era gangsters and it's awesome. Honestly, I only started watching it because I heard there were lesbians (I know, I know, I'm rolling my eyes at myself too) but the whole thing is brilliant, not just that storyline.
- I still haven't seen Deathly Hallows yet. FAIL.
- I've just realised how close Skins gen 3 and US!Skins are. How has time passed so quickly? It seems like fandom is way more excited about US!Skins, which is kind of hilarious considering the initial reaction. Is anyone actually looking forward to gen 3 at all, or is everyone just expecting it to be shit?

IDK why I'm offering to do this because I already have TWO holiday exchanges I need to write for, but this looks like fun! And also I've hardly written anything all year, so I guess I want to cram December full of fic.
holiday fic requests!
Comment with: a day, a fandom, a character/pairing, and a prompt, and I will write at least 300 words for you, to be posted on the day you claimed. Any fandom you know I'm familiar with is fair game, though I reserve the right to ask for a different prompt if you pick something I don't feel comfortable writing, or a fandom I haven't been into in a long time.
( dates! )
Fandoms I'm willing to write, off the top of my head: Skins (gen2), Fringe, Legend of the Seeker, The Good Wife, Doctor Who (11th Doctor), Downton Abbey, Boardwalk Empire, anything Lady Gaga-related, Buffy, Harry Potter, probably a ton more I can't think of right now. If there's anything else you want to request that you think I might be familiar with, just ask! It's only 300 words so I'm willing to give lots of things a go.

Nov. 21st, 2010 09:17 pm- ( X Factor )
- Yuletide assignments aren't out yet and it's making me antsy! I really just want to know what I'm writing because whatever I get, I'm going to need to do quite a bit of ~research. I did, however, get my
girlsgunsfic assignment, and I have lots of options! I just need to decide what to choose. I only signed up right at the last minute because I wasn't sure whether two holiday fic exchanges would be a bit much, but I think it's going to be fun. (Actually, I guess I should write a Dear
girlsgunsfic Writer letter? Maybe later.)
- I still haven't seen the new Harry Potter film! Clearly I need to get on that.
- WORK TOMORROW. Mondays are the worst.

Nov. 15th, 2010 11:11 amIn the process of reading through all the Dear Yuletide Writer letters I've stumbled across a prompt that is EXACTLY what I want to write for Yuletide, to the point where I've already started planning out a fic. *facepalm* And now I'm pre-emptively disappointed that I'm most likely not going to be assigned that request! (I have been considering narrowing down my eight offers to four, the minimum, but I realise that attempting to game the system in that way is a) against the spirit of Yuletide, and b) not likely to work anyway.)
I would just write an extra treat for that person but it's the sort of fic that would really need a lot of research and I wouldn't want to sideline my actual assignment.
OH MY GOD WHY AM I WORRYING ABOUT THIS BEFORE ASSIGNMENTS HAVE EVEN GONE OUT. /ridiculous
In other news, for some reason I had a Glee-related dream last night. It involved Cory Monteith and Mark Salling randomly deciding to switch characters, so Cory was playing Puck and Mark was playing Finn. It was as hilariously terrible as you would imagine.

Nov. 7th, 2010 09:36 pmLOL, The X Factor is such a fucking farce. That entire elimination was scripted, y/y? *eyeroll* THIS SHOW. The thing is, I wouldn't mind the fuckery quite so much if it weren't so fucking PREDICTABLE.
In other news, I've... kind of given up on NaNo. IDK, it feels weird to give up on it after having done it for so long, but I guess I just wasn't feeling it this year. The main problem is that I really like my idea and want to write it well, and I know that if I write it for NaNo I'll just end up hating it and never wanting to look at it again, so it'd just be a waste.
UGH WORK TOMORROW. :(

Don't think I'm going to get any writing done today, which will put me a day behind. :( But still, I don't work Fridays so catching up over the weekend shouldn't be a problem. Hopefully on Sunday I'll be able to go to the write-in near me, which will be a great opportunity to get loads of words down.
- Please tell me there's new Fringe tonight (/tomorrow for me). I miss Olivia Dunham's face.
- NEW WONDERFUL PATRICK WOLF SONG OF AMAZINGNESS. ♥ ♥ Honestly, I wasn't entirely convinced at first, but it's definitely a grower. I spent the first few listens going "Wahhhhhh it doesn't sound like a Patrick song" and then it SNUCK UP AND HIT ME OVER THE HEAD WITH ITS FABULOUSNESS. IDK if anyone else cares but you SHOULD.

Daily target: achieved! Yesterday I was stressing hugely about NaNo, to the point where I was quite tempted to not even bother, just because I'm really invested in my idea and didn't think I could do it justice under NaNo conditions. (Also, I've hardly done any writing this year, and 50k suddenly seemed like a massive undertaking. In other words, I'm lazy.) I didn't even start writing at midnight like I usually do, although that was also because I'd started watching Boardwalk Empire, which is brilliant except for the fact that Steve Buscemi has a really unpleasant face, and watched to watch the second episode. So it took me a really long time to force myself to start writing today, but when I did... I wrote over 1000 words in one sitting, without any procrastination breaks. It feels SO GOOD to be writing again. NaNo FTW!
How's everyone else doing? *cheers you on*

Oct. 28th, 2010 09:12 pm- NaNo starts in less than five days and my main character STILL DOESN'T HAVE A NAME. D: Or, well, she has a name, but it's not the perfect name, it's just a name that'll do. And that's basically the same thing as not having a name at all.
- I feel like I've been shirking my duties as a Skins fandomer by not commenting on the US Skins trailer! Mostly I think it's going to be super weird for the first few episodes that are basically remakes of series one, but I'm really looking forward to seeing where it goes once it branches off. And of course I'm mostly interested in Tea, because, well, you already know my feelings on cute lesbians. Also, I love how fandom's already shipping her with Michelle, but I just have one request: please, fandom, don't start calling them something stupid like ~*Teachelle*~. JUST SAY NO TO NAME-SMOOSHES.
- Who's watching Lip Service?? It can't exactly be described as quality TV and yet I'm enjoying the hell out of it, probably because after The L Word the bar for lesbian TV is set so low you can step over it. Anyway, brief thoughts: Frankie is SO HOT but her emo is tedious, I like Cat but she needs to pull herself together, and Tess is my favourite even though sometimes her storylines hit my embarrassment squick hard. And I LOVE Tess and Lou together, even though Lou's awful to her. :/
- I've had 'I Wanna Be Like You' in my head intermittently throughout the week and it's all Katie Fucking Waissel's fault. Why is The X Factor trying so hard to make her happen? She's not going to happen.

How is it this time of year already?
Oct. 13th, 2010 09:18 pmAhhhhhhhhhh Yuletide nominations are open! *runs around like a headless chicken*
I think I'm nominating TWO separate Gaga-related fandoms, ahahahaha. POSSIBLY I AM RIDICULOUS. The Telephone video for one, and then I'm trying to figure out how to list the fandom if I want to request Lady Gaga/Jo Calderone fic. Ya rly. Please tell me I'm not the only one who ships it!
(Also, I'm so glad they've tweaked the fandom eligibility criteria so it means that new-but-massive fandoms like Inception won't sneak in.)
So, who's doing Yuletide this year? What fandoms are you nominating? Are you as excited as I am?? :D

Oct. 11th, 2010 07:57 pmHi, flist! I feel like it's been ages. Every now and then I feel guilty about not posting, but I don't really have a lot to say. I miss being in fandom! Without fandom I spend far too much mental energy on stupid stuff like The X Factor (WHY DO I OBSESS OVER THIS TERRIBLE SHOW) and no one really wants to hear about My Thoughts On Katie Waissel or whatever.
So, yeah, there's that. Um, what else is going on in my life? Work is just kind of chugging along. ALTHOUGH, we have a couple of volunteers now and it's super annoying having to find work for them to do. One of them in particular seems to be completely useless at research and whenever I ask her to look something up she comes up with something completely irrelevant. If I ask you to look up holiday accommodation, don't give me ideas for days out! If I ask you for non-council sources of funding, don't come back to me with links to local councils in fucking SCOTLAND! WHY WOULD YOU THINK THAT'S RELEVANT. IDEK. But I have no idea how to tell her that what's she doing is wrong, so I usually just end up doing the research myself. :/
In other news, I'm in one of those moods where none of my music is quite what I want to listen to. Rec me your favourite albums of the last year or so?

Oct. 3rd, 2010 09:31 pmSo, who's watching The X Factor this year? I'm hooked yet again, not that that's particularly surprising.
( Thoughts on the top 12 )
So, who are your favourites? Do you think the finalists are better than last year's frankly quite dreadful lot?

Sep. 28th, 2010 10:55 pmUgh, fucking work. Today made me want to SHOOT MYSELF IN THE FACE. There's this whole new area of work that we're moving into and I just... don't want to do it. Mainly because I SUCK at it, and while I'll probably get better, in the meantime there's going to be a period of awful awfulness and I just want it to END.
Silver lining: the more I have days like this, the more I become determined to write a book that might actually sell so I can do something with my life that I actually want to do. I have an idea that I'm really excited about, the one I think I mentioned before, and I'm planning on writing the first draft for NaNo. (I'm kind of worried about that, because usually after NaNo I hate what I've written and never want to see it again, but I think if I have a tight enough plan beforehand maybe I can make something of it.)
Is anyone else planning on doing NaNo this year? I'm super excited about it but I hardly know anyone else who does it. Seriously, it's awesome; everyone (uh, with an interest in writing) should try it.

Sep. 21st, 2010 12:38 amGod, I need to stop reading
ohnotheydidnt. If I see one more comment about Gaga only campaigning for the repeal of DADT for ~publicity~ I'm going to find a way to PUNCH PEOPLE THROUGH THE INTERNET.
Loved her speech; love her. I'm such a fucking stan it's ridiculous but I don't even care.
OMG, how is it so late? *goes to bed*

Sep. 19th, 2010 12:36 pmI decided to catch up with Merlin so I could watch the new series that's airing now - I'd previously given up on it after that godawful troll episode last year - and hmm, I'm still pretty ambivalent about it.
