- A day later and I've just about recovered from the Brittana kiss. (The hug afterwards is my favourite part.) I dread to think what I'm going to be like if WHEN we get a proper kiss on the show. IT MUST HAPPEN.

- I'm still really sad about Chord being cut! Sam, with his ridiculous impressions and his Justin Bieber tribute band and his general all-round adorkableness, was by far my favourite of the guys. Also, Sam/Mercedes had so much potential. I can understand why they might have thought he was expendable, because he doesn't seem to have a ton of fans like Darren and Chris do, but I still think he was really widely liked even if he wasn't a lot of people's favourite. SIGH.

- I'm also sad that the Glee tour is over. What are we going to do without endless buttslap gifs to tide us over until we get new episodes?

- Question for fic-writing purposes: how many weeks does a typical US high school summer break last?

- I feel kind of guilty for not having written a letter to my [livejournal.com profile] femslash11 author, especially considering I usually write such long ones. I guess it's too late now? (Dear [livejournal.com profile] femslash11 author, if you're reading this: just write whatever you're inspired to write, and I'll be super happy with it!) I haven't even started writing my own fic, although it is mostly planned out so I'm hoping I won't find it too difficult to get the actual words out.

- I'm really enjoying the new Patrick Wolf album, Lupercalia. I wasn't that impressed at first but it's finally grown on me! /no1curr

- This moodtheme makes me ridiculously happy. ♥

Don't think I'm going to get any writing done today, which will put me a day behind. :( But still, I don't work Fridays so catching up over the weekend shouldn't be a problem. Hopefully on Sunday I'll be able to go to the write-in near me, which will be a great opportunity to get loads of words down.

- Please tell me there's new Fringe tonight (/tomorrow for me). I miss Olivia Dunham's face.

- NEW WONDERFUL PATRICK WOLF SONG OF AMAZINGNESS. ♥ ♥ Honestly, I wasn't entirely convinced at first, but it's definitely a grower. I spent the first few listens going "Wahhhhhh it doesn't sound like a Patrick song" and then it SNUCK UP AND HIT ME OVER THE HEAD WITH ITS FABULOUSNESS. IDK if anyone else cares but you SHOULD.
botherd: (*facepalm*)
Hi, flist! I feel like it's been ages. Every now and then I feel guilty about not posting, but I don't really have a lot to say. I miss being in fandom! Without fandom I spend far too much mental energy on stupid stuff like The X Factor (WHY DO I OBSESS OVER THIS TERRIBLE SHOW) and no one really wants to hear about My Thoughts On Katie Waissel or whatever.

So, yeah, there's that. Um, what else is going on in my life? Work is just kind of chugging along. ALTHOUGH, we have a couple of volunteers now and it's super annoying having to find work for them to do. One of them in particular seems to be completely useless at research and whenever I ask her to look something up she comes up with something completely irrelevant. If I ask you to look up holiday accommodation, don't give me ideas for days out! If I ask you for non-council sources of funding, don't come back to me with links to local councils in fucking SCOTLAND! WHY WOULD YOU THINK THAT'S RELEVANT. IDEK. But I have no idea how to tell her that what's she doing is wrong, so I usually just end up doing the research myself. :/

In other news, I'm in one of those moods where none of my music is quite what I want to listen to. Rec me your favourite albums of the last year or so?
botherd: (rufus: silhouette)
- Today at work my boss spoke to me and told me that a) I'm doing an awesome job, b) my contract which expires in a couple of weeks is going to be renewed at least through to March, and c) she's trying to get more funding so she can pay me more. I THINK THIS COUNTS AS A GOOD DAY. \o/

- Although I did stupidly leave my umbrella on this bus this evening. My nice one. Not impressed, self.

- Stolen from [livejournal.com profile] ems: Some Justin Bieber song slowed down by 800%. ACTUALLY AMAZING. No, really, I've been listening to it for the past twenty-five minutes.

- I'm making good progress on my [livejournal.com profile] femslash10 fic, finally! Not entirely convinced it isn't shit, but I'm kind of having fun with it at least.

- Is anyone else watching Covert Affairs? I marathoned the first five episodes (can you marathon only five episodes?) and I'm enjoying it even though objectively it's not that good. Mostly I just like it as a stopgap while I wait for my other shows to start up again - so, the lulzy spy capers will do until Chuck comes back, and the sisterly relationship will do until Fringe comes back, etc.

- Speaking of awful television, I'm kind of stupidly looking forward to The X Factor starting up again next Saturday. IDK WHY, because usually I don't like any of the contestants and the judges annoy me and the song choices are dreadful, but still I always get really into it. WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME.
botherd: (mad men: look to the sky)
Fuck, I love 6Music. I never used to listen to the radio because they're all full of annoying adverts or obnoxious DJs that aren't nearly as funny as they think they are, but I started listening to 6Music after I heard that they were going to get rid of it and I LOVE it. Lauren Laverne is so awesome.

Anyway, I actually opened up the update window to ask you all a question about your fic preferences. Specifically: how do you feel about fics that switch PoV between two different characters? Does it bug you? I'm not really a big fan of fics that switch PoVs, but I have a fic idea that just might demand it. :/ The problem is, the bulk of it wants to be from character A's perspective, but there are some scenes that would only really work from character B's PoV because character A isn't even involved. What to do??
botherd: (gaga: bigger than jesus)
- I am so, so happy to live in the Age of Gaga.

HOW IS SHE THAT AMAZING? I've only watched it once so far but I need to watch it more just to take it all in. Also: fuck yeah, I SHIP IT.

- I hear that series five and six of Skins have been confirmed.

[Poll #1537232]

I can't decide! I mean, I'm sure it will be terrible. But on the other hand, can it actually get any worse? I think I'll at least watch the first episode, just because I'm a masochist.

- I see there are major finale spoilers out there. Now, I don't want to know what they are, but can anyone tell me at least if they're good or bad?
botherd: (skins: love on a train)
- RL's been busy lately and I feel really out of touch with fandom. I'm way behind on fic and I haven't watched any interviews in ages; have there been any good ones lately? And I feel terrible because I owe people fic and betas. :/ ([livejournal.com profile] jules2112, I wrote you something but it was made of fail and I can't bring myself to post it. I'll write you something better and try to get it done soon.)

- Also, it doesn't help that I'm actually incredibly bitter about Naomi almost certainly not getting her own episode this series. I have a whole rant brewing, but I'll spare you - mainly because I'm still keeping my fingers crossed that she will get episode eight after all. I just wish it was official, you know? (Um, unless it already is, and I've just missed the news.)

- I've been rediscovering Fiona Apple lately. Or, well, mostly I've been listening to Shadowboxer on repeat. That song! ♥

- I've been getting into American Idol this year. \o/ I love stupid shows like this and The X Factor, even when I hate them. My favourite so far is Siobhan, because she's so awesome and weird. I mean, she's a glass-blowing apprentice with a Gashlycrumb Tinies tattoo - what's not to love? Also enjoying Crystal, Didi, Katelyn, and Janell's legs.

- Freddie's episode tonight. I don't know about you, but I can hardly contain my excitement.
botherd: (skins: kat approves this message)
So I just watched the Lady Gaga/Elton John (now there's a crack pairing!) Grammy performance.

OMFG, I love that woman so fucking much. ♥

Other things I lahv lahv lahv:

- The AfterEllen interview with Lily and Kat that you've all watched already. Okay, I really DON'T love the part where the stupid interviewer tells them to read the forums (WHY WOULD YOU SAY THAT), but rest of it fills me glee. Especially the part where they both said they disagreed with Emily sleeping with JJ! ♥

- LEGEND OF THE SEEKER. I just finished season one last night and my main thoughts on the finale are, 1) LOL WUT, and 2) CARAAAAAA. OMG, this show. It's so bad but so happy-making at the same time. ♥
botherd: (skins: what is this fuckery?)
BRITs most tedious album of 30 Years

Coldplay - A Rush of Blood to the Head
Dido - No Angel
Dire Straits - Brothers in Arms
Duffy - Rockferry
Keane - Hopes & Fears
Oasis - (What's the Story) Morning Glory?
Phil Collins - No Jacket Required
Sade - Diamond Life
The Verve - Urban Hymns
Travis - The Man Who

JESUS CHRIST. Are those really supposed to be the ten best British albums of the last thirty years? Really? I just... *weeps*

(And yet if Gaga's performing as she's rumoured to be, I won't be able to skip this farce like I usually do. SIGH.)
botherd: (btvs: bunny!anya)
- Apparently Rage Against the Machine are actually outselling Joe McElderry? Now, I'm all for ending the tyranny of the tedious X Factor Christmas number one, but a bunch of people buying a song with the refrain "fuck you, I won't do what you tell me" en masse because of a Facebook campaign? OH THE IRONY. Also, newsflash: Simon Cowell still has more money than everyone who's bought 'Killing in the Name' put together. He doesn't care.

- (Just seen that Ollie Barbieri has been supporting the RATM campaign on Twitter. I ♥ him, but LOL.)

- My neighbours appear to only have their wifi on in the evening, which is strange and kind of annoying. Obvs it's better than nothing, but only having occasional internet that I can only access in one corner of my room is KILLING me.

- Who has two thumbs and no money to buy Christmas presents with tickets to see Rufus Wainwright in April? SO EXCITED. It's been entirely too long since I've seen him live. Also super excited for his new album out in Spring!

- I've managed to just about finish one of my Yuletide fics, which is a relief! \o/ It kind of sucks, but whatever, it's better than nothing. Now I just have to write my original Yuletide assignment and my [livejournal.com profile] skins_holiday fic, and then I can concentrate on [livejournal.com profile] apocabigbang. So much to do!
botherd: (*facepalm*)
I hadn't realised that it's been nearly a week since I last posted. Um, I don't have much to report? Mostly I've just been working on [livejournal.com profile] 2ndyearstories, which is fun and stressful in about equal measure. But people seem to be enjoying it, which definitely makes the effort worthwhile.

And then once I've done with that I have Yuletide, ARGH. I stupidly grabbed a pinch hit (it was calling me!) so that's twice the amount I need to write, and on top of that, for my original assignment I might end up writing in a fandom that I didn't sign up for and have only started getting into now because I wasn't sparking any ideas for the fandom we originally matched on. *facepalm* It's not a small amount of canon either, but at least I'm enjoying it a lot. And then there's [livejournal.com profile] skins_holiday and [livejournal.com profile] apocabigbang! D: Somebody stop me from signing up for any more fic challenges, PLEASE.

Have a music rec! Dirt Poor Robins - The Cage. I've been looking for this album for the longest time, ever since I heard a couple of tracks a year or two ago (including their awesome cover of 'Eleanor Rigby'). I really want the actual CD because it's a concept album and apparently the liner notes add a lot, but I can't find it anywhere online. Amazon and iTunes don't even have the full album to download! But at least I have the full album now, and I LOVE it. ♥

Decemberists were AMAAAAAZING, OMG.

Cut so I don't ~spoil Sam, who's seeing them tonight! )
botherd: (colin meloy)
- Apparently today was the last day of filming for Skins series four! ngl, I am ridiculously sad about this. Not as sad as I'll be when the last episode airs - I anticipate many tears, because I'm lame and cry at EVERYTHING - but I love these ridiculous kids, and it makes me sad that they'll no longer be living together in Bristol and doing ridiculous things together. :(((

- In happier news, I'm going to see The Decemberists tomorrow! SO EXCITED. I think it's going to be one of their Hazards of Love shows where they play the whole album through, but I've not actually checked to see if that's the case, heh. Whatever; it's The Decemberists, so it's guaranteed to be awesome.

- Still behind on NaNo, although I've been using Write or Die and that's helping. I can do about 500 words in 10 minutes, so if I use it enough it shouldn't take too long to catch up. I think I've just about planned out the rest of the story as well, so I'm feeling a bit better about it. (I was having serious ~angst about it the other day, but I spared you the emo LJ posts I wanted to make about it.) ETA: just hit 25k! Two days late, but whatever, it feels good to be halfway there. \o/

- Finally caught up with the last two eps of Mad Men and OMG, how awesome was the finale? I seriously cannot wait for series four.
botherd: (30 rock: ack!)
- I got my Yuletide assignment! And even though I can't actually give it the proper attention it deserves until December, I'm already worrying about it - right now my mind is a blank when it comes to ideas. I'm sure I'll come up with something eventually (maybe once I revisit the source material) but I don't want to just cobble something together, you know? Ack. :/

- I've been watching White Collar and enjoying it (oh, Matthew Bomer, why so pretty? Must you insist on making me ~question my sexuality?) but I think it would be more fun if it was about Neal actually committing his crimes and Peter trying to catch him, instead of Neal helping Peter solve crimes. Sort of like an American Hustle, but with a prettier cast and shinier backdrop.

- Re. The X Factor last night: Fuck you, Olly Murs, for ruining my favourite Queen song. HOW is this guy the favourite to win? Also, Jedward were just kind of... boring.

- I need to get on with NaNo. To get back on track today I need to write 3650 words, and so far I've written... 12. It isn't even a complete sentence!
botherd: (wednesday's child is full of woe)
I don't know WHY I'm so invested in The X Factor this year, but I am genuinely quite gutted by Lucie leaving. :( Also, would quite like to punch Simon Cowell in the face.

Joe to win now, I guess? Meh.
botherd: (skins: the magic man)
- Anyone who wants to sign up for [livejournal.com profile] skins_holiday, now's the time to do so! Sign-ups close tomorrow at 11pm PST. It's an exchange open for fic writers, vidders, and graphics makers, and I think it's going to be a lot of fun, so go and sign up! :D!

- I'm really overwhelmed by the response that [livejournal.com profile] 2ndyearstories is getting. ♥ I'm having fun writing it and I'm just really thrilled that other people seem to be enjoying it. Honestly, the whole thing is really far outside of my comfort zone, both in that it's a big ensemble piece, and also because I'm posting it as an unedited WIP (omg scary!), and I'm just really happy that it seems to be working. ♥

- It looks like [livejournal.com profile] yuletide sign-ups are going to open soon? SO EXCITED. Although I haven't yet managed to whittle down my five requests to four. :/ I had them all planned out, but then I started watching Parks & Recreation and craving Leslie/Ann fic, so one of the other requests has to go. DILEMMA.

- I'm listening to Girls Aloud on shuffle and it's making me sad that they've been put on hold while National Treasure Cheryl Cole pursues her rubbish solo career. Girls Aloud's entire discography >>>>>>> 3 Words.
botherd: (botherd!)
I'm so bored! And LJ is pretty dead, sigh. Seriously, I expect the highlight of my day will be watching The X Factor results show, which says a lot. :|

Speaking of which, who are everyone's favourites this year? (Come on, I can't be the only one lame enough to spend Saturday night watching this rubbish, can I?) After spending ages being irritated by her I've decided that 'Stacey from Dagenham' is the most ridiculous/adorable person since Meg Prescott, and I love her accordingly. I pray that girl never gets media training. I've also realised that I fancy Lucie quite a lot. I swear last year I never fancied anyone younger than me, and now it's like there are suddenly all these hot eighteen year-olds running around making me feel like a creep. :(

Aside from them, I quite like Joe, and Rachel and Miss Frank are all right. All the over-25s can fuck right off, as can Rikki.

Worryingly, I'm pretty sure that John & Edward have become so bad that they've gone right round to being amazing; I've never laughed so hard in my life as when they actually did the whole "but I thought the old lady dropped it into the ocean in the end" bit. They're at least more entertaining than Lloyd, who is basically just the new Eoghan Quigg.

LOL FOREVER. Oh, William. ILU ♥

- I signed up for [livejournal.com profile] apocabigbang! Looking forward to doing another BB challenge, and it seems like quite a few Skins writers are doing it too, so that's cool. So far I have a title and a vague premise, but I've yet to figure out, um, what actually caused the apocalypse. But, you know, details. ;)

- New Effy moodtheme! ♥

- I know I've been promising that the 80s AU will be posted "soon" for over a month now, but it is actually nearing completion now. It still needs a bit of work, but I'm mostly happy with it, I think. It's not really as 80s-tastic as I intended, and it's not 80s in a lulzy way, but I'm still pleased with how the story's turned out.

- I have this week's Glee downloaded but IDK, this show isn't really living up to expectations for me. I like some of the characters and some of the musical numbers, but I'm not sure if I like them enough to overlook the massive amounts of general privilege!fail.

- Back to the apocalypse: rec me songs about the end of the world? I have a handful, but I'd like more.
botherd: (tweedy)
UM. HOW DID I BECOME SO OUT OF TOUCH WITH POP MUSIC THAT I DIDN'T KNOW THAT CHERYL TWEEDY* COLE IS RELEASING A SOLO ALBUM?!

I don't know how I feel about this.

*I know she got married YEARS ago, but she'll always be Tweedy to me. Or The Destroyer.
