"N is for Neville who died of ennui."
Feb. 25th, 2010 05:09 pm- RL's been busy lately and I feel really out of touch with fandom. I'm way behind on fic and I haven't watched any interviews in ages; have there been any good ones lately? And I feel terrible because I owe people fic and betas. :/ (
jules2112, I wrote you something but it was made of fail and I can't bring myself to post it. I'll write you something better and try to get it done soon.)
- Also, it doesn't help that I'm actually incredibly bitter about Naomi almost certainly not getting her own episode this series. I have a whole rant brewing, but I'll spare you - mainly because I'm still keeping my fingers crossed that she will get episode eight after all. I just wish it was official, you know? (Um, unless it already is, and I've just missed the news.)
- I've been rediscovering Fiona Apple lately. Or, well, mostly I've been listening to Shadowboxer on repeat. That song! ♥
- I've been getting into American Idol this year. \o/ I love stupid shows like this and The X Factor, even when I hate them. My favourite so far is Siobhan, because she's so awesome and weird. I mean, she's a glass-blowing apprentice with a Gashlycrumb Tinies tattoo - what's not to love? Also enjoying Crystal, Didi, Katelyn, and Janell's legs.
- Freddie's episode tonight. I don't know about you, but I can hardly contain my excitement.

Is it Thursday yet?
Feb. 15th, 2010 07:58 pmaskjkahgdjh people keep linking to Katie/Effy clips from Katie's episode and it's KILLING me. I don't watch the clips because viewing unspoiled is so much better, but now everyone's squeeing and I feel all left out. WOE. But I'm not tempted to cave, because I know it'll be worth holding out and seeing the clips in context. I'm just really glad the clips even exist, because I was kind of worried that we wouldn't get any Katie/Effy development at all.
Speaking of my OTP, I should have Katie/Effy fic for
jules2112 to post soon; I really want to post it before it gets completely jossed on Thursday, but that means I only have a couple of days to finish it up. D: We'll see!
In other news, I kind of want to talk about this week's Legend of the Seeker, and how awesome it was, but my thoughts are mostly just... really prurient. UNF, Kahlan is so hot when she's being all badass and toppy.

Once I had a love and it was a gas
Feb. 9th, 2010 11:59 amI don't remember much of what happened, but last night I dreamt about Sophia. Somehow, these last few days, that girl has really got under my skin. I want to write more fic about her.
(Does anyone else think it's awesome that Sophia uses Blondie lyrics and Emily has a Blondie poster on her wall? I love the parallels between them.)
Last night I rewatched episode two and I liked it a lot more second time around. (I wonder if this is going to be an ongoing theme with series four for me: initial disappointment, only for episodes to grow on me.) There are definitely parts of Naomi's characterisation that don't make sense, but on the whole it works a lot better once you know the ending. I think one of my favourite parts is that it turns out that Jenna was kind of right about Naomi all along. I mean, fuck, that just makes it so much worse.
However, I still hate that Emily managed to make Sophia's death all about her. I'm sorry, but 'brother wanting to know why his sister killed herself' trumps 'girl who didn't know her wanting to find out if her girlfriend cheated'. MATT SHOULD HAVE OPENED THE BOX. I know why the writers focused on Emily, but it still bothers me a lot.
But, to get back to the initial point of this post: Sophia ♥

I was on the Skins website yesterday and accidentally read a spoiler. Not a major one, but what is up with people just randomly posting spoilers in comments (that show up on the FRONT PAGE, no less)? Gah, it's so disrespectful. Anyway, I'm now desperately trying to persuade myself that I just imagined it.
( About this spoiler )
( About this spoiler )
I was going to make a long rambly meta post about all the reasons why I thought Thomas's episode didn't work, but having just watched it a second time... I actually liked it quite a lot! I think it's disappointing as a series opener, because we'd been waiting ten months to see our favourite characters again and instead we got a super depressing episode that's tightly focused on a character that nobody's particularly interested in (not that people don't like Thomas, but I don't know anyone who considers him their favourite), but I found I could enjoy it more when I knew what to expect. I wasn't disappointed and frustrated by the lack of Katie screentime, for example, because I already knew about it.
Anyway, I think this is possibly why there was a difference between the way reviewers and fans felt about it? The critics wouldn't have had all the hopes and expectations that fandomers would've had for the series opener, so they could appreciate it for what it was instead of being disappointed by what it wasn't. If it was episode two or three instead, I think it might have been better received in fandom. Or, IDK, maybe people would be bored all the same - I do think there were some issues with it, and it's not amongst the best Skins episodes ever - but I enjoyed it a lot more the second time around.
And that makes me even more optimistic about Emily's episode. Is it Thursday yet?

So I just watched the Lady Gaga/Elton John (now there's a crack pairing!) Grammy performance.
OMFG, I love that woman so fucking much. ♥
Other things I lahv lahv lahv:
- The AfterEllen interview with Lily and Kat that you've all watched already. Okay, I really DON'T love the part where the stupid interviewer tells them to read the forums (WHY WOULD YOU SAY THAT), but rest of it fills me glee. Especially the part where they both said they disagreed with Emily sleeping with JJ! ♥
- LEGEND OF THE SEEKER. I just finished season one last night and my main thoughts on the finale are, 1) LOL WUT, and 2) CARAAAAAA. OMG, this show. It's so bad but so happy-making at the same time. ♥

NINE AND A HALF HOURS OMG
Jan. 28th, 2010 12:34 pmHAPPY SKINS DAY, EVERYONE!! I remember after the series three finale (ughhhh) aired we were all wailing about OMG TEN MONTHS, HOW WILL WE SURVIVE, and now it's today! Thanks for making hiatus so awesome, guys; in my six years in various fandoms these last ten months have been by far the best. So many amazing people, so much amazing fic, so much crack and lulz and squee. I LOVE THIS FANDOM. ♥
(I would apologise for getting all mushy but I actually don't care.)
So, what are you hoping for in tonight's episode? What would you most like to see? I'm dying for ANY Katie/Effy interaction, even if it's just angsty glances from across a room. And I really hope Emily and Naomi make me remember why I adore them so much, because I've fallen a little bit out of love with them and that makes me sad. I want to squee over them again! Other than that... IDK. I don't know what to expect! I was trying not to get my hopes up too much, but that's proving impossible. So excited! *bounces*

LOLLL, someone actually made a petition to get Meg on Desperate Housewives! As we all know, internet petitions have a 100% success rate, so GO SIGN IT. MAKE MEG'S DREAM COME TRUE.
In other news:
"People make up fan fiction. Fan porn fiction! ... The best are the boys' ones; you can read them and imagine it!" [Kaya] giggles. "It's funny."
Question: why is it that normally the thought of actors reading fic makes me want to curl up in a ball and die, but the thought of Kaya reading lulzy slash amuses the fuck out of me? ...Probably because "you can read them and imagine it" makes me think she ships it, and KAYA SCODELARIO = SECRET SLASHER would be the greatest thing ever.
Happy Saturday, flist! ♥

Eight days!!
Jan. 20th, 2010 09:46 pmSO SOON OMG. Now that episode descriptions are flying around and the screening of the first ep is in five days, I just want to say: PLEASE DON'T SPOIL ME. I've heard some things, but I don't want to know anything else from now on and will not be impressed if anyone spoils me. In other words, CUT YOUR SPOILERS OR I'LL CUT YOU. ;)
The
help_haiti auction ended today and it looks like fandom has raised a LOT of money, which is awesome. \o/
jules2112 won my fic offer, so I'll be writing her Katie/Effy. Yay! :D

No time! There's never any time!!1*
Jan. 17th, 2010 08:11 pmMy BFF
lazy_daze, who's in Supernatural fandom, has always said that hiatus was her favourite time to be in fandom because getting new canon every week is kind of stressful. I never really understood that before - hiatus is self-evidently long and agonising! - but now that we're eleven days away from getting series four, I TOTALLY GET IT.
I have a bunch of fic ideas in my head for stories set post-series three, and now I feel like if I can't write them in the next eleven days I'll never be able to write them at all, what with imminent jossing from new canon. There's this one Katie/Emily/Naomi fic that's been floating around my head for months (a long sequel to this ficlet), but now it's never going to happen unless I go AU, and I'm not really a fan of AUs that just disregard bits of canon. :( But I am going to try and get a Katie/Effy fic done before the next series starts; I've written post-series three K/E a couple of times now but I don't think I've ever quite got it right, so I'm going to try and change that. You know, before it's too late. ;)
BTW, shameless pimping: I'm still offering to write Skins fic for
help_haiti here, if you want to bid. There's also a list of other people offering Skins stuff here. :D
*I feel like I use this reference a lot. Just as well it NEVER GETS OLD.
